Dear Customer,

We have recently been alerted to a product warning and voluntary recall issued by Dometic, relating to some gas hobs that we sell, and which are very commonly used in campervans worldwide. If you use a Dometic gas hob in your van, regardless of whether you purchased it from us, from someone else, or if it came with your van when you bought it, we thought you would want to know about this issue.

The product warning and voluntary recall is due to a fault they have discovered in the gas tubes and gas regulators which they believe can cause a potential leakage of gas, with the obvious associated dangers this brings. The current announcement is available here:
https://www.dometic.com/en-gb/outdoor/uk/lp/product-warning-and-recall

Dometic has also issued us with a letter outlining the issue in a little more detail, explaining that they are working on a solution and will inform us when they have an update. We will of course also advise you as soon as we have an update. You can read this letter here.

At this point we can’t advise you any differently from the statement provided by Dometic that if you have one of the listed products, you should follow the instructions provided in the article, particularly with regard to shutting off the gas supply to your stove.

We are anticipating further details from Dometic in due course. Our understanding is that Dometic plans to resolve this issue directly with the end user themselves and not through the retailers. We want to reassure you that if this changes we will work with Dometic to ensure that the issue is resolved as quickly as we can. Dometic is a large international company with a strong reputation to protect, so we see no reason why they wouldn’t work to resolve this issue as a priority.

While you are waiting to hear the full details of this recall, this would be a good time to look out the serial number of your product, so that you are prepared when more information is available. You can usually find the serial number on a label applied to the product. For the combi cooker & sink units the label is typically on the side-wall of your sink.

We do not have any additional information on this subject at the moment, but we want to assure you that as soon as we have something useful to share with you, we will provide a full update and instructions on next steps.
Kind regards
Rob, MIke & all the team at Kiravans

Well, my Hobby has one of the listed items, just coming up to two years old.
It was supplied as original equipment by Hobby, with the van. I guess the dealer is the one to chase to get something done (yet another complex issue to get sorted!)

I'll chase the dealer up and wait to see what happens.

Thanks for the heads up on this RGCH999.

All the best, Bob.

I think you need to go by the SKU to see if it has the problem. I have a MO9722R, but the SKU is different from the recall list.

You are spot on!
The SKU starts 91023xxxxx so I guess my stove is ok.
Its always a problem knowing which of the multitude of numbers they stick on things is the important one.
Thanks.
Wonder what SKU stands for anyway?

There is the potential for this to cover a vast number of motorhome and caravan hobs so I can see some delays ahead. I spoke to my dealer (Chelston) and the person I spoke to was not aware of the issue, so I have forwarded to them the web link to the Dometic recall notice. Thanks for the alert RGCH999 .

My thanks to Lenny HB who posted about the device on another thread a few days ago. Might be useful if you have one of the affected hobs. My one arrived this morning just in time for checking our hob.

Yep my SKU is different so think it’s ok. Probably later models than my 2015.

Mine is 9103301788. A PI/MO9722R bought about a year ago. Electronic ignition version. Not sure when the offending versions were manufactured.

So here's an update on ours.....

Van went back to the dealers today for inspection of the hob by a Dometic engineer.

Quick tip for anyone who has one of the potentially affected hobs - if you take one of the plastic burner control knobs off and find that the metal underneath is brass, then it's a 70% chance that your hob is one of the ones that needs to be de-commisioned and replaced. If it's not brass, then apparently it should be fine (don't take this as gospel though - have it checked professionally!)

Typically ours was brass and upon further inspection by the engineer of the serial number it was confirmed as one of the potentially faulty units.
Gas disconnected and thats that...... No working hob till the replacement arrives. The Engineer said that he's been doing these checks and refits for the past 10 weeks or so and the longest he has had between declaring a unit faulty and fitting a new hob has been just under 5 weeks.

Yes it's a bit of a pain, especially on a new van.... but if the issues that arise are dealt with in a timely manner, then I'm not going to complain - especially when it comes to safety.

We are next due to go away at the end of November, hopefully all will be resolved by then including the two other niggles we have on the snag list - a minor whistle from the main roof-light (which I've fixed temporarily with some foam sheeting) and the leisure battery, which I believe has been faulty since day 1 - despite a full day (or days) on EHU (we also have a solar panel) once you come off grid the fridge runs for about 2 hours max on level 3 before the it sends a warning that there is not enough power to run it - Our dealer will be checking this under a warranty claim when they fit the Thule awning which we paid for when we bought the van - but has taken since July to come into stock ;)

Ah well, the trials and tribulations of owning a Motorhome huh?

I'll update as and when there is a resolution regarding the hob in case anyone else is having issues too (y)

Just a quick update - Engineer stated approx 5 weeks wait for replacement hob when he disabled it for safety recall back at the start of October, it's now been 12 weeks - Dealer has been hopeless at keeping those of us waiting updated - latest estimate is now sometime in February :swear: ......

Anyone else having issues?

Anyone affected by the Dometic recall. My van is 6 years old and subject to the recall. What’s the next step.
Are you sure it is subject to recall? According to the Dometic website linked above the recall only involves appliances supplied from October 2020 onwards. Anything before that, which would include a 6 year old van, is not affected.

If you read the Dometic announcement, this recall only affects vehicles produced or registered after October 2020 or components produced after the same date.

Sorry, Peter beat me to it!
