Just looking
Good morning

We have a Bailey 740 on mains hook up

Fridge light is working but the fridge is not cooling

Can anyone offer advice?

Regards

Bob

On my Bailey Approach the fridge is plugged in to a socket under the cooker. When stowing stuff there it easy to knock the switch turning off the power to the fridge. Check where your fridge gets it main power. The light is likely to be 12V so its not an indicator of mains power.

If the fridge is showing it has mains power the heating element has probably failed and needs a new one fitting

Just checked, mine is plugged in under fridge
We are parked on father in laws drive on a slope, could this be the problem?

I'm told that a slope can be a problem but not had a problem myself. Dumb check is there power at the socket? Can you feel heat coming from the top vent?

If more than 3° off level it could be, but normally OK up to 5°.
Normally more of a problem when on gas.

I was going to say the out of level problem is more an issue of the gas flame not going straight up the flue and heating the exchanger. The mains (and 12v) element is touching the heat exchanger

No heat = failed element

12 degrees and it wont work on gas

Is this a simple DIY replacement
Depends on access if you have the large vents it can often be done via the bottom vent otherwise its a fridge out job.

First you need to check if you are getting 240v to the fridge element if not it could be ta faulty control panel on the fridge or the electronic modual on the back of the fridge.

You need to see if you have 240v at the fridge socket first. Then next stage is to try the fridge whist the van is more level. If still not working test the 240v element whilst it’s fitted.

battery mode will only keep a cold fridge cool when driving. It will not cool a warm fridge. Gas will though

That was true of the older fridges, modern ones have bigger 12v elements and are thermostaticly controlled.
