Burstner Argos 747-2
Hi all,

Dometic 7655L fridge isn't working on 12v or on gas in our 2007 Burstner Argos 747.

240 hook up is fine.

When trying gas, it clicks away for 30s trying to light, but ends up giving the flashing light indicating an error.

With 12v, I assumed it was the 20a fuse in the battery compartment, replaced that today, but still no luck on 12v. Fridge light is on when running on 12v though.

Haven't investigated gas any further, as can't figure out how to get vent off on the outside and don't want to break it!

So a bit stumped, so if anyone has any ideas to point me in the right direction that'd be great.

Cheers,
Col

12v operation of tge fridge is possible only with the engine running.

To remove the vent covers, rotate the plastic screws through 90 degrees, then ease the cover at that end away from the body of the van, then push the cover towards the end without the screws.

Hi Ian,

Oh yes, I know that 12v will only work when the engine is running. But I still see a red light on the fridge when 12v is selected.

Regarding the cover, there are no screws, only this:

I had a similar problem a few years ago. The 12v issue was a relay within the engine bay. The gas well that was a combination of two issues. The first time was the burner which after cleaning worked for a while but was playing up by not reigniting when temp rose so I replaced it, then worked fine for about 6 months when I had to change the gas regulator. Has all worked perfectly for past year or so, TOUCH WOOD.

colin_b I dont know if you are aware or if it would be any help but there is a Dometic 7 series manual in the Resources section on the top line on this page ( in manuals for Motorhome stuff )

Those type just push up,with a bit of persuasion 👍

Thanks, I will have a go!

Ok, I will have a go at cleaning the burner.

In terms of the 12v, any more info on where the relay is etc and what it is I'm looking for?

Thanks, I actually have the original manual, though it isn't particularly helpful in terms of troubleshooting. The solution if it isn't working on 12v is to replace the fuse. If it isn't working on gas, the solution is to turn on the gas

Hi Colin,
Not sure on your vehicle however I took a look at the battery positive terminal where there was several wires connected to a buz bar type terminal. I found the largest one which was the same cable within the fridge vent wiring connector in my case brown. I don’t have any testing gear so I just tracked it from the vehicle battery to a cover within the engine bay. There I found 4 relays one of which had this wire going to it so I took a chance and bought a new 30a 5 pin relay and plugged it in and Yey it then worked on 12v the light went green when I started the engine and when I switched off the engine and waited 15 minutes the fridge fired up on gas just as it should. Here’s a picture of where the relay is on my Fiat Ducato . Sorry for long drawn out reply.

If you do not have the same system as Dave Scadding has , but have a Schaudt Elektroblock EBL fitted , I think you will find that this unit normally controls 12v supply fridge operation and the relay is built into it .(most models)

So the 20A fuse for the fridge is definitely next to the main van battery (1st pic); this setup is certainly the same as described in the manual. I upgraded it to a 25A fuse as advised on another thread here.

There's a fuse and relay box in the engine compartment (pic 2), but how do I know which relay I'm supposed to be looking at?

And then there's the Schaudt Elktroblock too. So I'm confused as to where I should be looking.

This is a 2007 Burstner 747 on a Fiat Ducato.

colin_b The fuses/relays in pic2 are for the Fiat side of things (engine, wipers etc.etc). There may also be a 2amp fuse near the 25amp fuse in pic1 that needs checking. Also I think you may find that the EBL (pic3) has a fuse/fuses linked to the 12v supply to the fridge.( The 2amp marked Steverung may be one)

Thanks Geoff.

Where are you seeing the 2A fuse in pic 1?

I'll check the steverung fuse.

A quick google tells me that 'fridge' in german is Kühlschrank and there is indeed a Kühlschrank fuse, so worth taking a look at that too!

I meant that there could be a 2amp fuse near the 25amp one in pic1 (not that I could see one) It may be that the Steverung one in pic3 is in place of it as it seems to relate to electronics which is what it is needed for.(although I am not sure that 240v fridge operation would work without it being ok)

I would be looking where that red wire from the fuse is going, hopefully to a relay although it looks a bit small, from pic 2 I would think all of that is standard gubbins for the vehicle systems and not for the domestic side of things .

colin_b The socket plug at the bottom left of the EBL (pic3) marked BL4 may be worth checking, it looks in the photo to be burnt and may be loose ? it seems to be the main fridge feed into the unit from the starter battery

On my Burstner (2021) there is a 20 amp fuse by the starter battery and a 20 amp by the leisure battery. There is also a 2 amp by the leisure battery.

i would start at the fridge to see what power you have there as your getting lights i assume you have power on the controls side
so you need to checkfor a 12volt supply with engine running
gas and 12v running are more or less seperate actions
for the gas side you need to open the vent and see if the flame is lighting at all
no flame lack of gas or lack of spark
flame lights briefly then goes out
its either the flame is to small you should be able to hear a low roar when its alight
or the flame isnt being detected which can be bad connections on the leads
