I'm a newbie
just about to get our first motorhome, the sales lady ( french ) was really surprised when we said we were taking our dog with us!

do many people have dogs with them in their motorhomes?

how do they they travel?

just interested

I would have thought between 30-50% of French motorhomes have dogs, including ours. Our puppy travels in a cage the old dog travels either on the floor behind the driver or on 'her' chair behind the passenger seat.

Had our last dog all over europe with us but unfortunately lost him last year , so thought now we can enjoy our travels just me and the missus.

We lasted one trip away realized we had to talk to each other ::bigsmile:, so now we have two puppies just clamming to get away on our travels I think!

Who would have a Motorhome without dogs. Saves a fortune on kennel fees (?) Put simply, if we didn’t have dogs, we wouldn’t have a Motorhome and we would be at saving up all year to go somewhere nice for two weeks and then going nowhere the rest of the year.

Our dog loves the motorhome and she goes everywhere with us. When we travel she is secured on her bed under the table. When we arrive her bed is relocated into the passenger footwell.

Motorhoming wouldn't be the same without a dog, our lives when we are away, are very dog orientated. The good news is, even in Spain on a hot day, we can leave her behind. We make sure she has fresh water and we leave two fans on. When we get back, she is always cooler than we are!

Sadly our muttly won’t be away with us any more. His launching legs are not good. He only manages to the end of the street these days. Perhaps days out for picnics without much walking.
We could never leave him in the van after eating two car seat belts. We always end with loveable misfits from rescue centres.

As Fidget already said, dogs are the reason we bought a motorhome......our four are all rescues (the dogs!), and we would never put them in kennels.

Always take our dog, part of the reason we got a mh.
Our yorkie is getting a bit old now (12) so bought a bike Trailer to help, so in lockdown we have been using it on long walks, she didn’t like it at first but She will get used to it. Will eventually connect to the bike then we can go everywhere.

Can't go anywhere without her, been all over Europe and filled a passport, just be aware in Spain you cannot take a dog on public transport unless you carry it, bit hard with a 30kg dog! They must also be secured when traveling, she goes under the table and has a harness fastened vis a seat belt on the spare seats next the table and when you are waiting for ferries as soon as the migrants sense a dog they keep well away from the van, most are genuinely terrified of dogs, must be the threat of rabid animals in their home country. We also have the bike trailer for longer outings she is quite happy running alongside and when needs a break just climbs in the trailer.

We bought our motorhome so the dogs would always be with us. Have met hundreds of interesting people because of them that you otherwise would never have met

The reason being it's the law, and if that's not enough then consider the potential consequences for you and your dog in the case of a road traffic accident.

Any doubters might consider reading this.

couldn't imagine life without a travel companion... Just Betty now, sadly Tara's last journey was in the motorhome. Big lumps so secured on a seat belt via the harness, although Tara covered over 100k miles in the motorhome all over Europe mainly on the floor. laying down or up between the front seats for a look around.
