Hello from a new campervanner. Does anyone know if there is a way to find out in advance if beaches in France are dog friendly?

hi and welcome,

as far as i know there is no way of telling until you are physically at the beach. many of the bigger beaches have an area where dogs are permitted, but never come across any form of data base or local authority info on the subject.

if you know where you want to go ask and someone here may know from experience.

Depends where you are heading but for us this place was really good! Can’t comment on the facilities as we used our own but we did use the on site cafe two nights and we thought it was great! Very simple food Crepes, Pizza or Moules all with fries. Stunning beach just across a narrow road.

couple of sites to give some idea.

we spent beginning of June on Cap Frehel Brittanny. Time and place chosen amongst other reasons because I found online dogs allowed til 15th June. Arrive there and notices in campsite and at beach entrance no dogs may1st to September 1st
however, huge beaches were empty even though it was a French bank holiday And sunny. If there were 10 people on the three miles of beaches then seven of them had dogs!
i found that the same some years before at Gavres.
id work on the principle stay off main town supervised beaches especially July and August but other than that go early, the French don’t seem to get til 4!
the only really dog friendly place I found was Plouharnel in Morbihan on the Quiberon peninsula. Tourist office there was very clear three years ago- our beaches are dog friendly and that includes municipal camping des Sables Blancs which is on my list!

We've just comeback from the Loire Atlantic coast some of the beaches had "No Dogs" signs or "Dogs on leads" but seeing as the locals were taking no notice of the signs whatsoever, we ignored them to. Still cleaned up after ours out of common courtesy and kept away from sunbathers and other beach users.

It might be a different story in July & August when it gets busy.

Welcome from The Cotswolds! (y)

In Germany, look for the naturalist beaches. The dog friendly beaches are next to them. As we found. 😳😳😳
