Dodgy wiring?

Afternoon all,
The 100w solar panel on my Sunlight T60 was fitted by the dealer when the PO bought the van brand new in 2017. They connected it to the battery cables coming out of the back of the EBL unit.
I don't have a problem with that at all but whilst the positives were wired into the screw terminals on the EBL, the negatives were crudely spliced into the negative battery cables and wrapped in electrical tape. See the attached pic.

This strikes me as a slightly shoddy way to work on a brand new van.

What a bodge, it should have never been done like that. One reason I try to all the mods on my van myself I've seen so many bodges by dealers.

I would sent them a photo to stop it happening again and ask did a 4 year old work on my camper

Seen that before, many times and it seems a typical job done by an Eastern European to save the cost of doing it right. Electrically it works fine, but terrible for the physical joint and weakens the cable it's soldered to. We avoid solder joints on vehicle wiring because unless the joint is well supported, it can fracture as the soldering hardens the copper strands in the wire. Then you get a poor connection or intermittent fault

No solder involved as far as I can see. Just wrapped around and taped. Came off with no effort.

I don't see the problem. That is how the entirety of the first floor of my house was connected to earth when I moved in 20 years ago (a bare cable taken from the first floor circuit to the electric shower which had the outer sheathing split so the bare cable could simply be wrapped around the shower supply's earth wire)

Nothing wrong with that at all it’s safe, neat, soldered but the only thing missing is a bit of self amalgamating tape to tidy it up.

A bodge in my opinion. They should have fitted a bigger terminal block with enough room for all the cables.

No room because the block is a fixed size hence why it’s spliced.

Connections should be crimped not soldered, shoddy work imho
