There are no phone numbers for our local tip anywhere on the planet, contacting the local (Medway) council simply results in a series of unrelated dead end option promts. It's almost as if they have decided to block off all possible contact with the public or at least give everything you inquire about indecipherable and at best barely related, half answers that require you to guess where to go next.
I just want to get shot of the old mattress from the motorhome we have just bought Oh Please!!

Why is everything so bloody difficult nowadays.

End of dummy spitting and rant!

Sorry can't help with the disposal. BUt have you therefore bought new one and if so where did you get it from.

Ours is an island bed with a curved bottom (oh matron) so not a standard size.

I was quite shocked at the auctions for old caravan cushions on eBay recently (I thought they’d be worthless) might be worth putting it on for 99p and see if someone will take it away? I gave ours to the kids for dens, and similar we’re going for forty quid! Failing that, free cycle often results in people who want things you don’t.

If it’s reasonable nick and has fire reg labels, charities will often take them. If not, animal shelters are always looking for bedding here.

Hi, ordered from...
https://customsizebeds.co.uk/
They made it to our dimensions for a Rapido 9048 and it was delivered less than 48 hours later, extremely comfortable and it cost £364.99!! I cannot recommend them enough, cracking little company and ironically just a few miles away from us in Stroud, Kent.(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

Chuck it the garden put some hedge clippings on it and put a match to it(y)

Take it with you to a site that allows fires, then at the end of the night, chuck it on. People always love a bit of smoke on a campsite.

Took me 3 minutes Steve.
You can get rid at any of the three household recycling centres but as of today, 3rd June, you need to produce ID to prove you are a Medway resident. Anything official with an address.

If going with a small van you need to book beforehand.

Is this of any help.

From where I'm sitting, a mattress comes under the guise of Household furniture. Whether that applies to one out of a motorhome,? how would they know?

Slowcoach, fit a better engine in that chariot:)

Yeah, I went through all that and still couldn't get anywhere either booking a collection or contacting the tip or speaking to anyone.
This whole online/digital thing is bollox!

On a similar note we have a bulky rubbish collection service which can be booked on line so I did just that, and after a two week wait the day came, the vehicle driver jumped out and said Im not taking them and when I asked him why he said they are too big . After a phone call to the council I was told that its up to the driver as to what he collects, despite me telling them what the rubbish was and the exact sizes when I booked the appointment. It was three large sliding doors off a wardrobe system. I just chopped them up and put it all in the wheely bin for a few weeks .:)

Our local tip has a dedicated skip for old mattresses so they are treated differently to household waste.

Our local Council has real people who speak to you when you phone up and they keep a record of your enquires so you can call them again a few weeks later when nothing has changed, but at least it's a real person !

Sometimes I think we live in a different country, our bin men would just throw it in the lorry.

Must add to that, I'm talking chopped up a bit not a whole mattress

I have chopped up loads of stuff and put in wheely bin over a few weeks, most recently a washing machine.

I'd carry it down to the town hall & ask wtf is going on & where do I dispose of this ?

What he said ¨¨^^^^^^^^^^^^^^(y)^Then weigh the scrap in:giggle:

This - on a whole range of issues be it policing, healthcare, education etc etc - is the source of a lot of our problems. Matters like these shouldn't be dealt with at a "local" level as the affect everyone, create multiple levels of bureaucracy, huge costs and create a postcode lottery...
At the border of local authorities there can be two different ways of disposing of said mattress... I live in Lincolnshire, but on the border of Cambridgeshire. If the dump recycling centre at Bourne [Lincs] won't take an item or charges a fee, the one in Peterborough [Cambs] invariably will take it or for free - and vice versa. Nuts.

We bought our new mattress from Custom Size Beds and still remark on how comfortable it is over 2 years later.

I squeezed the old mattress into the back of my car ( a mini at the time!) and dumped it at the local refuse site, no problem.

There is a 2mtr height barrier at all three sites.
No sign written vehicles.
