Hope someone can help. Just bought a new to me Dethleffs Advantage MH. The TV doesn't work. Had someone look at it and he said there is power at the 12volt where you plug it in and that it must be the cable, or the tv itself. Tried to purchase a new 12 volt power cable, but because the tv is German (I think) I cannot see any cables with the same end on it. Anyone know where I could purchase a new one like this.

Just a standard Heller plug, in fact that particular lead does both it comes with a red adaptor on the end to fit cigar lighter sockets, before buying a new one as its unlikely to be faulty anyway.
Have you checked the fuse inside the plug? If it is blown fuses normally blow for a reason.

This is what your plug would have looked like when supplied.

Hi Lenny HB

Thanks for replying. The guy who looked at it said there was power at the place you plug it into. Here is a picture. Where would the fuse be? Sorry I am completely out of my depth with electrics. I am sure he said he checked the fuse. IMG_4646.JPG

Whoever you got to look at it.. dont use again. ! If they charged you poor job. If they did a freebie then they don't have enough knowledge to help you properly.

As stated thats a Hella type plug, nothing special and could have a fuse inside. Otherwise they should have checked the lead with a meter to Eleminate the power lead.

Thanks tonka

I am beginning to wish I had kept my old Swift Kontiki. I never had any problems with that.
As I bought the dethleffs privately, I have not got anyone to go back to. It's a steep costly learning curve.

We are trying it all out on a local to us campsite as we have also just had a victron inverter and solar fitted.
So frustrating.

The fuse is in the end of the plug just unscrew and it's there mind the spring or if it has a screw in the side it's inside

Hi denisejoe

Thanks for your reply. I have just looked at the fuse. It looks fine can't see any breaks in the wire.

Dont worry, it can only be one of three things as you said there is power in the 12v socket:

Fuse in the 12v plug (buy new) Test with a meter first, someone on the campsite will have one
Cable attached to abouve (buy new cable with plug)
TV Kaput (you said it was German, Buy a new TV))

Ok just another thing, If the TV uses an analogue aerial to pick up UK stations you may get picture with no sound or sound with no picture as in Germany before digital transmissions, they used a different system to the UK (Depending on the age of your TV and I am going back a while) So if you get it all working and that happens: new TV.

Thanks everyone for all suggestions.

I will struggle along for a bit and see what happens. Failing that I will go to Malvern, but it will probably be General camping and hopefully get someone that knows how to do it, have a look for me.

Can you pull the other end of the lead out and test that will solve the lead problem then just tv

Hi lesleyjean

We have a 2009 Dethleffs advantage and been very happy with it since we got it third hand only 18 months old. It is a very well built van and I would not hesitate to buy another one if I had to.

There are 2 12v plug socket at the position you show on the picture. Just assume that the 12V switch on the panel above the door is showing as on. Do you have a 240v lead for the TV as there is a a socket in the back of the cupboard above the fridge freezer as well as else where and you could see if the TV works with that. Certainly I would follow the lead from the plug socket to see how far the power supply goes and if it seems to get to the TV then check if the TV has a fuse in it that could have gone.

Hope you have many years of happy travelling with the new acquisition.

Hi Doug

Thanks for the reply, I will have a go at that. Sounds good.

If your not sorted by Malvern I will come take a look for you.

Managed to get lead out of the tangled mess. The lead is ok. We have managed to test the tv as well and that is fine.

The remote control is all rusted up. Just ordered a new remote control from eBay and hopefully all will be working fine.
Thanks everyone for your help.

I have looked in cupboard above freezer. I cannot see the fridge freezer plug, but it could be hidden behind the bodged up box that was fitted to hide the electrics for the victron battery monitor and the victron inverter charger. Thanks

Hi Lesley Jean

The 240V socket is on the front of the ledge at the back on the of the locker above the Fridge. The socket is about 21/2" square and is about an inch from the right hand side and from the front of the ledge.

Looks like it is probably behind the box that has been fitted on the right side.
