we Sold our 2018 motorhome in oclover 2021 then ordered a new one for 2022 from marquis motorhomes Tewksbury delivery march 2022.
we have an occasional call from marquis only to put back the delivery date 15/03 then 30/03 -15 04 - now 30/04 plus the call today informing me that Peugeot vehicles are now coming without cruise control and offering a free Hab check as compensation for the cruise control.
what a shower of shite marquis motorhomes Tewksbury.
I was told they had received the certificate of conformance on the 14/03 Then a week later telling me the Ariel has been fitted by Peugeot incorrectly and they are waiting for Peugeot to re route the Ariel cable.
I guess no one noticed the missing cruise control then until today.

Well clearly there has been a change of specification from what was ordered. When ordered did the vehicle list CC. If so its not what you ordered and it appears the dealer is acknowledging this by offering the FREE Hab check as compensation. So if you decide to walk from the deal I cannot see how you can be loosing the deposit as what is being delivered is not what was ordered. It is probable that the supplier had a load of base vehicles delivered without CC fitted and had no option but to build on them as waiting for another set of base vehicles with CC would be ages.
So in these times when you wait ages for another build, you cannot walk away and then order something else as nobody has in stock new vans and the prices have gone through the roof. So if you cancel the price goes up.

If you decide to keep the van check to make sure nothing else is missing from the base vehicle. ie Air con and the like.

Dealers are probably not bothered if customers cancel orders due to incorrect/incomplete specifications as there will be other customers along, desperate to buy. I wouldn't be surprised if they put the prices up too.

Last October we expressed interest in a new motorhome that was in stock at a dealers. Having expressed interest we were told their website and windscreen price were wrong and the vehicle was £3k more. As we walked away we were told the prices were going up again the following week & sure enough they added another £2k a week later.

If you push too hard they will be happy for you to cancel. Guaranteed they can get a couple of grand more for the van now than you are paying. and will snap your hand off.

There are a number of CC fitters around. Tell the dealer you want them to pay for one to be fitted, if they won't budge then consider swallowing, as new vans are going to be thin on the ground till 2024/25

Lack of cruse control is not the end of the world, just keep your foot still on the pedal.
If you cancel you won't see a new van this year and a second had one will cost the same as the new one a free hab check is only worth £150 so try to get something else added in for free.a first service with oil and filter change would probably be better or an extra battery.thrown in.

At the moment you’re not getting your dream that you wanted and your vision could be clouded by the red mist. Have several cups of tea and write out pros and cons of walking away and what could be done. Don’t rush into anything

I have spoken a length to my dealer (Highbridge) with regard to the extra upgrade packs I have paid for. I have it in writing (email) that with Rapido that although there is an overall upgrade package price which I have on my invoice, each element within that pack does have an individual price and if for example LED lights or Electric folding mirrors are missing from the upgrade pack they will refund that particular element. It remains to be seen if that holds true of course.
Might be worth an enquiry with Majestic.

I was about to suggest much the same.

There are a good number of businesses that will retro-fit a cruise control.

Just get a quote from somebody conveniently local to you and ask the motorhome dealer (Marquis) to deduct the cost from the invoice. A pain I know, but may well be the best option.

I've had retro-fit cc fitted on a couple of brand new cars and they performed absolutely fine without any issues for years (the duration I owned them).

Hope you can get a satisfactory outcome without too much more hassle. (y)

Of all the add-ons i miss is a Speed limiter and Cruise Control. The former I prefer as i use it a lot with our 2015 Corsa. Now and again i look at the price of the after market and ask if it is worth it for the hassle involved

We had the same experience a year ago with our Mercedes Wildax. Came without leather steering wheel, mudflaps and larger sat nav screen.
Offered our money back and start again, but with 6 month wait and increased price.

We took the van, aftermarket fitted all but the satnav, glad we did, van now £20k more expensive, just unbelievable increase, almost 30% in a year! Great for residuals!!

I’d take the van and enjoy it now.

Makes you wonder why Marquis don't do that.
I guess they don't bother if they know they could sell it quickly as it is and for several grand more.
If that's their level of service before you've bought it.....................

Problem is ,like air con, once you have used it continually then you miss it to the exent that the other day i had to drive 300kms in a car without cruise . never again.

I know on the Ford SMax with no cruise, all you had to do was change the steering wheel to one with cruise controls on and then enable it in the ECU.

All the sensors were already there and it was simplicity itself fitting it.

Might be worth a bit of research before committing either way.

Vehicle production almost everywhere is in trouble due to component shortages. I suspect the OP's problem stems from a delay in the manufacture of the base chassis and therefore not the fault of the MH manufacturer/converter or the dealer.

Cruise control cut down a broom handle to ensure it will fit between das and peddle, not too snug as it needs to be kick away in an emergency
Airton open the windows and drive faster
Electric mirrors do your make up before leaving home
Take the van and enjoy 😉

I had cruise control retro-fitted to my van after purchase as all the other spec was what I was looking for. Given the increasing scarcity of brand new vehicles and the rising prices I’d accept the van, negotiate what you can towards the fitting of CC, and get on with enjoying your travels. 🙂

I bought my van from Marquis, and negotiated with them the fitting of CC as part of the agreed deal.
However, in the same situation I’d take the van and sort out the fitting of the CC myself. The cruise I have now is neat and functional but I discovered later that it would’ve been easy to have a OEM installation done.

Tell them you want cruise control fitted so they need to get the kit in and fitted simples 😉 there are after market’ cruise control kits so they have no excuse.

To add to my thoughts above..........
Perhaps Marquis are concerned about 'modifications' affecting the warranty........

I don't think they are all that bothered about correcting orders,it's a seller's market. The op has been told ,no refundable deposit ,take it or leave it. They know they can sell the vehicle on for more than the ordered value ,without any hassle from a new buyer, buy as is attitude.

The new van we collected last year that lasted a full 15 miles before blowing up had basic upholstery. Of course we rejected the van.
The new van that we are to collect tomorrow, inshallah, has the upgraded upholstery at no additional cost. The same van is now £10k more than the one we collected last Aug. We have paid no more that last years van, got a 22 reg as apposed to 21 reg and the upgrade.
Having said that, when we get there tomorrow there could be surprises.
Deffo no deposit refund, not bothered, it's coming home with us tomorrow. If it's not what we ordered check the classifieds i stand to make a few grand.............................and go buy a narrow boat;);)

We had cruise retro fitted to a previous Renault that was better than the current factory Fiat we have now. It came with 2 extra buttons that could be preset to different speeds, great bit of kit. If you really want the van I would try and push for something like this before you accept it.

That's assuming of course that you get it home before it blows up.:giggle:;)

google ‘retro fit cruise control Peugeot boxer’ find the price and where it can be done local to you and ask for a price deduction to the same amount. You couldn’t be more reasonable than that.

I am now being told that the deposit i left is non refundable !!!! I don’t think so
I recently lost my non refundable £1000 deposit to a cowboy company who I lost trust in during the process of purchasing a motorhome. There seemed no way to force them to give me the money back apart from going to the small claims court. There would be no guarantee of winning as it would be your word against theirs and it would cost you more money if you were to lose.. I would try to work with this company if you can to resolve the issues if you can. I am sorry you are in this position and hope it works out for you.

A small claims court cost for £1000 is £70. That is all you pay. You take out a claim against the company through the Northampton claims office. You outline your case as to why you feel your deposit has been held contrary to any contract. As you will be taking action against a company they will have to attend YOUR local county court. So if that involves a long distance for them to eventually attend incurring costs to them(none recoverable) that may discourage fighting the claim.

You do all the leg room yourself. You do not need a solicitor and if the company run up massive costs defending the claim for £1000, no claims for costs can be made against you at the court. Many people decide to settle prior to any hearing if the time and effort or cost to themselves is not worth the amount claimed, in your case £1000. So if the company employed. a solicitor to challenge the claim it would soon cost more than the £1000. There reputation damage on the facts will beout there in social media if you so want. Also if they are lazy and do not actively engage and defend the claim you can end up winning by default and the county court judgement entered against the company . That will not help there credit rating with their bank?. So again look at your claim, if the supplier/dealer breached the terms of the agreement. Do you have a claim, reconsider your position.

Just a thought
