Ireland is proving itself to one of the countries where I am defensively driving the van for the benefit of other road users! Today I saved either 2 lads lives who were walking on the road around a bend on a narrow road or a head on smash with the moho or a combo of both, with a real bellend driver going far too fast. Unfortunately many local drivers are hairing around narrow country roads at ridiculous speeds not expecting another vehicle to be around a corner & also on their phones. I am on full defensive driving mode in the van, tiring & largely unessesary if others were driving reasonably & off their phone. End of rant! :(

No different to France where you can expect cyclists anywhere and milk tankers at full tilt on the narrowest roads. I've taken blind bends at not much more than walking pace on this trip. :)

But stay safe and have a good trip. :)

Not really seen that in Southern Ireland, most drivers seem overly timid and immediately stop when they see us coming, even when two double decker buses could easily pass each other. Very courteous, nearly always offering thanks when I pull in to let them pass or if I take the initiative on a narrow road.

Northern Ireland far more aggressive and far less courteous with no real road sense or awareness. I gave up pulling in regularly to let them pass due to the lack of acknowledgment.

Both North and South seem to lack spatial awareness and both sides have very few drivers who are able to or are prepared to reverse (in our two months touring experience).

I am noticing anticipation & road sense are a disappearing art! I took 3 taxis in Belfast & one driver should not have been on the road IMHO.
