Just looking
I'm with 1p mobile for my android phone and our tp link portable router.
Never had bother running out of data up to now but in our Northumberland 4 day trip had used 75% of 10Gb monthly boost
Normal usage us streaming into our Chromebook for telly on a night, might get a proper TV in the future.
Use our tablets, usually just googling stuff although I play chess online a lot. I'm on 50% win rate so I'm mediocre but I enjoy playing.
Also, use my android phone for all the normal use.
So I upped the data to 25Gb.
3 day trip just finished had used 35%.
Was 3, 2.5 and1.8 GB over the 3 days.
Only real change was that I'm doing a blog on here if each trip as it progresses.
Posting includes attaching photos and uploading videos to you tube then sharing to Mfun.
Also often on Google maps with my phone.
Want to keep blogging but our upcoming trips are going to be way longer.
Can anyone say what the most likely reason for heavy use is ?

Easy to get rid of 10gb data by streaming TV. You'll be better off paying more for unlimited data to be honest.

This is what I have. £16/month from Three but there are always offers going around. Moneysavingexpert is a good site to find the current deals.

Cloud account would be handy I suppose but that implies a monthly fee ?
Iphones do a form of "free" cloud backup from Apple .. but the free isn't enough, the amount it costs is 70p a month for our use.

3 months of that and you could have 350Gb a month (on Three) for near 2 years on the scancom deal above.

^ is £40 for data valid until Christmas 2026.

If I got one of them for my TP link would my Android phone with the 1p mobile sim connect with it ?
Yes, you just connect as you would to public WiFi.

It's like any sim for a router, assuming your router is unlocked (so can take any network) you just put in sim and usually thats it,sometimes you need to enter APN details. Then you have internet via wifi on any device connected to it. It's why we use a van router, as the sims we put in the van have more data than our phone contracts.

Note though that your performance may need more than a cat4 device (tplinks are often cat4) when you have that much data available (The 3 network tends to need a 5g or cat 12 device minimum these days to give decent performance). Many thread on motorhomefun about which devices perform best, but in short myself and a few others prefer the ZTE devices as they are very very cheap for cat12 devices. If you have a static install and don't want to leave the van and are capable of wiring a power supply into your van for permanent supply, the cat12 ZTE Minxy mentions above (286D) is only £40, and is 4 times quicker than some of the £100 devices from tplink sold on amazon. (you will need to find and supply a 12V regulated supply for it at 2 amps, OR have an inverter and use the mains adapter that comes with it). If you want a simple USB C supplied device a 5g one is about £150-175 depending on the day via ebay (MU5001). I'm not saying the sim won't work with your tplink (which is likely cat4) it will, it just will be limited to a max of 150Mbit but also is likely not to be able to use all the frequencies Three now use. Try it and see if it works, as 350Gb (per month) for £40 until next Christmas is a deal that really can't be missed for the price.

I have a 3 sim only deal on a rolling contract, unlimited, £15 a month.
My partner has an ID phone contract, which is also on the 3 network, £17 a month for a Samsung A35 phone and 250gb data.
We watch a fair bit of sport, football and F1, plus ordinary tv using the phone as a mobile hot spot and a firestick.
Works well.

One improvement has been the partnership of Three and Vodafone as they now use each others towers so much better coverage, our lodges site couldn't get a Three signal but now it does and the Scanlon Three sim flies.

I'd warn that hasn't rolled out everywhere yet though, it's region by region. The vodafone masts at Far Grange for example reject my sims at moment (these are brand new Vodafone 5g masts).

I can't wait for that to be fixed as the inlaws should get > 800Mbit when done once I put a new 5g router in for them.

An alternative is to dump 1p mobile and get a contract for your phone, eg

£5.16 a month after discounts etc

£4.16 pm after discount etc

Plenty of deals on HotUKDeals
Thanks Mincy.
Will start having a look.
Even when we were OK on the 10GB monthly the one's you illustrated would be cheaper + more data.
