Just been out today for a ride with friends around Benidorm and the surrounding area. I can't believe how courteous and accommodating the car drivers are, only got cut up once and that was a British registration car, whenever a car gets a bit close there is better that 50% chance it will be British. I understand that laws in Spain say that you should give cycles 1.5 metres clearance, and they do.

Have cycled in Majorca and found it very relaxing, not like here where you need eyes in the back of your head.

Same applies in France, also in most European countries (apart from the UK) if a car & cyclist are involved in an accident it is the car drivers fault regardless of circumstances, hence they give you a wide berth.

Since 2011 therefore I'm not a newbie anymore
Used to go to Vets cycle training camps in the Denia area. The Spanish drivers were generally great. Just watch out for the small towns where they double and triple park and just stop to park in front of you without warning.

Out of town they are very courteous and give you a wide birth.

Best bit of the holiday was being absolutely cream craked knackered from cycling up the Ratz mountain when we saw this Spanish rider, just crest the road up the mountain, beautifully bronzed, dressed all in white, combing his hair whilst riding on the big chainring at the front and the little one at the back, the hardest you could make it! - we all felt very small!
