Since 2008 after caravanning for 20 years
I received this information from my son who lives in Paris:

Paris and the Ile de France authorities are extending the Crit'Air zone on 1st July.

From 1st July onwards all vehicles within the A86 will require a Crit'Air sticker.
Category 5 vehicles are not permitted within the A86 (but are permitted to use the A86).
Category 4 vehicles (heavy goods) are not permitted within the Peripherique 8am-8pm.
Category 4 vehicles (cars and light commercial) are not permitted within the Peripherique Mon-Fri, 8am-8pm.

Reminder: A86 is the "outer" ring road, Peripherique or BP is the "inner" ring road.

He was giving me the heads up as we will be visiting him next month and into July. Fortunately our 2008 2.3 Multijet is a category 3 vehicle as we will be driving within the A86

Is there a link between these categories and the Euro 1 to 6 Emmissions standard?

Yes. Just google and you should find it easily. As I remember Category 1 are electric, Category 2 are Euro 6 petrol, Category 3 are Euro 6 Diesel. Etc

So are Motorhomes classed as cars or Vehicules Utilitaired Legers?
If I’m reading right then either way a Euro5 Diesel registered after 2011 is Cat 2. So they will not be impacted by the Paris restrictions ?

Either one, a Vehicules Utilitaires Legers is a light utility vehicle ( transit type panel van). Both categories of classification are identical.

Check your category here. The first chart is for up to 3500kg and the second for over 3500kg. Eg, my April 2009 Cheyenne, a Euro 4 engine at 4000kg, is a Category 4. The same engine with a sub-3500kg gross weight is Category 3:

PDFs won't display on the page so here's pics of the two charts:

You can use the simulator here to check your vehicle, too.

Mine's the grey ones at the bottom:giggler::giggler::giggler:but far better when running on hydrogenated sunflower oils.

Once you have filled in the online form is very straightforward, Just send them a copy of your V5 and they will Tell You what is required.
If there is high pollution on any particular day, the motorcycle police set up temporarily road checks and an eye watering fine if you don't have a sticker!
