Hi can someone please offer me some help in obtaining a Crit’Air sticker. I filled out the questionnaire. Then took a photo my V5C with my iPad and was hoping send it as an email. But only to get a message stating this is too large please reduce it! How do I go about reducing it ? As the cost is in E’s how do you send it? Many thanks.

Convert photos to a pdf file it’s smaller. We paid with our clarity card

It’s all about the file size. I remember when I did mine a few years ago I had to get the size down very small - under 400k I think. You ONLY need to send page 2 with all the technical data. They just want the Euro Class, Sizes, Weights and Emissions

As for payment any credit card will do. You get charged in Euros and your credit card company will convert it. In most cases their rates are pants and there can be “non-sterling transaction charges” as well, but it works.

I have a Halifax Clarity card which has good rates and no charges. I know there are other cards such as Revolut, Wise and Starling which are also much cheaper.

Paid for one on visa debit on Tuesday (old one fell into gap between windscreen and dash. Only managed to retrieve half of it so ordered a new one). Went through Barclays at £4.21 which I thought was reasonable. Took photo with phone no problem with file size.

If you're using a Windows computer just open the photo in Paint and resize it to 25% save it and check the file size is less than the Crit air site wants. If still too large repeat until file size is small enough

Another way to reduce the file size is do a screen shot of the photograph. This is easier on a phone or tablet I think.

Lots of answers to this in the search bar.
Had the exact same problem myself, daughter sorted it.

On an ipad, get an app to compress the photo size

Yes, you can download a resizing app from the APP Store as Riverbankannie suggested or you can use the Shortcut app that will already be on your iPad. The latter means creating a new shortcut which takes several steps but, once it is done, the new shortcut can be used to reduce the file size of any jpeg photos taken on your iPad to any size you like - instantly. In your case so that your submitted image is within the Crit’Air 400kb size limit.

You could create a PDF using the Books app but the resultant file size won’t necessarily be much smaller than your original jpeg.

Just sent off for one for the car..

scanned the V5 and saved as a pdf. uploaded no problems.

It is possible that the DVLA accepts a larger file size than the Crit Air software though.

Don't know if you are sorted yet but this comes up as a way to reduce a photo on an ipad

  • Select the photo in Photos
  • The use the command "File > Export > Export 1 photo
  • In the export panel click the "v" to the right pf "Photo Hind: JPEG" to reveal the advanced controls and select the image size and quality.
  • Save the file to some folder.

Just out of interest VXman I thought I’d try your suggested method of reducing a photo to see how it compares with my shortcut method. I’m using a 2022 iPad Pro with software version 17.3.

I select the photo but can go no further. I can’t see anywhere the sequence ‘file>export>export 1 photo’. Can you enlighten me? Thanks.

Thanks for all your help, still a bit confused but I will sort it out.

You can not apply for a Critair sticker using an IPad. The software systems are not compatible. I tried for a week with the IPad, then researched it on tinternet and discovered you have to use a microsoft platform, like a PC or a laptop. It took 10 mins once I got stuck in with the laptop.

This is the definitive answer, stop messing about with files and apps that reduce the size of the pdf or jpeg, bin the IPad for this particular task and use a laptop!!

Cheers!

Russ

I don’t use Microsoft and applied for the sticker without problems.
