Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to mine. Insured with C&MC with windscreen cover. Found a small crack in my windscreen so called the number on my policy. Straight through to Auto Windscreens. Took my details and arranged replacement windscreen to be fitted March 5th. Grand. They cancelled on 3rd March and rearranged for March 17th. They cancelled on March 15th and rearranged for March 29th. Turned up with the wrong windscreen. Rearranged for April 7th but said if it’s raining I’ll need to drive to their depot 15miles away so they can replace it under cover. First site trip booked for end of April. If they cancel again I’ll need to cancel two sites we’ve booked as I won’t drive with a cracked windscreen. Anyone had similar issues with Auto Windscreens?

Not had the issue with Auto Windscreens but if it was me I'd be phoning C&MC's insurance broker (Devitt Insurance Services Limited) to complain and get them to be giving AW a boot up the ......

Cracked mine in December 2019 on the way down to Spain, 8 inch crack passenger side, got it changed 2500 miles and 10 months later in September. They did it outside my house. No problem.

Very similar story on mine cracked all the way across, not in line of vision so just carried on and had it changed a few months later at a time that more suited us. If we wanted to go away whilst waiting, we went. It’s not like it’s going to fall out or anything.

Dates muddle! They turned up on 17th with the wrong windscreen so rebooked for 29th but they’ve cancelled that and booked now for April 7th for their 4th attempt to replace it. Apparently if it’s wet ‘the glue they use’ won’t set properly

Mine did although he didn’t need it. They are franchise so maybe your chap didn’t have one. Mine was rear window. I was standing on my garden when it went pop a shattered bits everywhere.

Used them once. Did what they said they would do.👍

Chap arrived in a VW van with a wind out awning on the side. Ideal for cars but not tall enough for my vans windscreen. When he rang his depot to say they’ve given him the wrong glass he said it was a motorhome and seemed not to know this before he arrived so I don’t think it’s the fitting guy’s fault at all. They had all my vans details before sending him out so it seems to be his depot’s communication that’s at fault. Latest reason given for cancellation was a ‘system issue’.

I have recently had a small crack appear in my front screen, not very big, and not in sight line. I was going to wait and get it replaced a bit nearer to MOT time. Is it actually illegal to run with a cracked screen?

I was wondering the same. Crack in mine from top of drivers side diagonally towards bonnet; about 5” long

Had several screens crack over the years
Like others on here have said, it’s ok to drive with a crack (and not dangerous) as long as it’s out of your line of sight
Insured through Comfort (Autoglass I think) but they always send out their commercial fitters
The base vehicle is a Ducato X250

In spain it is illegal. Having said that we bought a German van witha 2' crack running across window where the wipers park.replated it, kept it for 11years and 22 mots and No one spotted it.

Fingers crossed mine will be replaced on 7th; though I won’t be surprised if they cancel for the 4th time🙄

We had a cracked windscreen appear on our way to a campsite for the night before catching the ferry for a six week tour of Norway and Denmark. Comfort did try to get it replaced in the UK before the crossing but no joy. They reassured us it wouldn’t shatter as they are in two layers. They said the crack would lengthen and follow “heat” sure enough it did. We were uneasy for the first few days. A man on a campsite in Belgium gave us some glue that stopped it going further and we had the windscreen replaced on our return home.

The point of my tale is that I would get them to fit it around your hols now after all this time, there’s no real rush.

Think I’ll do that then if they cancel again. Two sites booked in April so, now I’m reassured, I’ll head off to them and have it done on return.

Had two screen replacements within 18 months. One done by Auto Windscreens in Scotland. Another by National windscreens at home. The first was done by one person with all the correct gear and very professional. The second was by two cowboys who left marks on the screen pillars. I wouldn't elect to use National again!

No problem driving with the cracked screen. In fact have one in my MX5 for the last 18 months. Will get that replaced before the MOT at my expense. I can't face the increased premium on three vehicles.

FYI, National Windscreens is Autoglass, quality of fitting come down to the actual fitters they were fine with our A Class.

On a side point on windscreen replacement claims. Are you aware that a claim for a replacement windscreen is a notifiable incident claim when renewing your vehicle insurance.

Yes claims do not affect your no claims bonus but it is still a claim.

I found this out when I owned our old Kontiki on fiat C class chassis.

Was going to claim for replacement screen then established that I would have had three insurance claims in 5 years and my premiums for all my vehicle insurances would have gone through the roof. Elected not to claim through the insurance (with £75 excess) and paid £125 with budget windscreens to have windscreen replaced.(windscreen repairs do not need notification)
Could not afford to do that with the A type, screen is several thousand pounds I am told.

Just the screen without fitting was £2.5k for ours.

Yes thats the sort of money I have heard, had a stone chip and that was repaired. Was told you can only have two repairs on a screen.
I am with NFU who cover screens unlimited on value, others informed me that there were maximum amounts

Ours (Comfort) is unlimited if we use Autoglass, £3k if we use anyone else.

At 2k or more it would be surprising if it didn't affect next years premium they aren't a charity!

We had two cracked windscreens last Feb/Mar, one in Spain the second in France. The one in Spain was repaired at 5pm the same day, the one in France at 9am the next day. On both occasions we had to go CarGlass premises. On both occasions call to insurance Co, who transferred us to AutoGlass who took details of our location and sent details to CarGlass who then called us to arrange appointment. The Spanish one was very straight forward, the French one more fraught as OH gave them the wrong mobile number! Luckily our son works in insurance and contacted AutoGlass. The Spanish fitters did manage to “lose” the reversing camera wiring but the French ones found and reconnected it.

Hi.
Insured with Comfort at least 3 years. Rang about a Chipped windscreen and was put onto their approved supplier, they could not repair it for a couple of weeks. Local Derbyshire company said they could do it within 2 days... Providing ....Comfort, knew about this and saw the firms credentials,it was OK to go ahead. It was done on site,by two of Belpers finest (y) and paid for over the phone... ( They arranged that, they were young and knew how to use the MAGIC mobile phone saying the White Fivers i offered to pay with were no longer legal tender....:rolleyes::ROFLMAO:)..NO rise in the next years premium,i am a very happy customer and will remain so,very happy with their services..
Tea Bag.
