Just looking
Fancied a few days away and checking weather middle of last week for this week went ahead and booked 3 sites.
One in Durham, 2 in Yorkshire.
Van packed Monday am, 12v fridge/freezer already"down" to temperature.
Not taking any chances, hab batts put on ehu late on Monday.
Nice to start with 100%.
Just have 190A of agm, so just 95 effectively.
Fridge/freezer pulls 2A so 24hrs with no sun would take half out.
(Actually would be more as 24hrs of no sun would be a lot of dark as well).
Yes I know this week will not be a problem but ever since a September wobble I am always cautious.
Off we went at 11 am, filled with diesel and on our way.

Cost was £40.37 for 2 nights, that's wrinkly discount + extra 10% off offer for minimum 2 nights.
Passed a lay - by a couple of miles east of Barny, had MHs in it.
Another one the same just west of the town !!!!!
Both looked minging and noisy, just 20 yards off the main road and very little screening.
Hope they were just having a pit stop.
The site is just west of Barny and along the road from a CMC site but it's well off the main road unlike the CMC.
Will walk into town tomorrow through the woods.
Had mushroom feta filo rolls for lunch, homemade.
Relaxing now, will have a short walk later.
Not taken any photos yet.

Was in Barney on Saturday - quite busy.

Had nice coffee in a little cafe with an african theme - dog friendly and rustic

Nobia & Sons next to the Co op

There is a lovely little site between Bowes and Barnard Castle. I think it is The Old Armory or something similar. A bit further out than the CCC site and a bit cheaper. It was ideal for us as I was investigating family history and my Dad's paternal relatives are from that area.

My 3xGreat-grandfather was "one of many black sheep on his family" and his mother was described as "wayward daughter"!!!!

That’s £19 a night so not much difference to the ccc site which is a lovely site with showers, toilets etc

Theres a CCC THS on at Stanhope show field Co Durham this weekend. It's £40 for to nights with some entertainment.....I would check 'out about' for further details. Just if your out and about

Looking at the forecast there should be no shortage of sun in CD and Yorks this next few days.
Was blowing a hooligan all yesterday afternoon, but the forecast was " moderate breeze".
At least it was ☀️.
Gentle breeze today and ☀️ again.
Just about to head off to walk into town.

Back from our walk.
Instruction sheet from the wardens was excellent although it says 1.5 miles to town but it took us 45 minutes and we don't slouch around
Was market day but the kindest I can say about it is "almost interesting".
Went into Boyes and came out £35 lighter 😪.
Had a mooch round the castle and had our lunch on one of their bench seats.
Home made sausage rolls and Bakewell tart.
Both Gregg's and Bakewell can eat their hearts out.
Not a patch on what my wife makes.
But we did wash them down with a Greggs cuppa.
Pics below.

Next destination is Heber farm at Buckden, North Yorkshire.
My Aguri sat nav wants to take me to the A1M then instead of crossing over past Leyburn simply straight down to Harrogate, across then up.
88 miles !!!!!
An even shorter route would be over to Richmond then cross past Leyburn, just 45 miles.
An even shorter route is directly down past Langthwaite, Reeth and Askrigg; just 38 miles.
Think I need to check the sat nav settings.

Welcome to the Dales! I live between Barnard castle and Richmond. Watch out for nutters on motorcycles on that stretch past the CMC site. Ill give you a pip if I pass. :D

Some fabulous places to visit not far from there and the road from Barney over to Langthwaite and Reeth and back through Swaledale to Richmond is one of my favourites on the bike for a short ride out. All doable in the motorhome with care in places. The switch backs up the Stang Forest are a bit tight but the big bonus up here is very little traffic.

Thanks, we leave for Buckden tomorrow and intend to go by Langthwaite, Reeth, Redmire, West Burton and Bishopdale then on to Buckden.

And we won't be able to walk into town from there😭.
Yes, it was handy for us as I wanted to be in Boldron and Bowes and Bowes Gate. Bowes Gate is at the turn to Boldron by the old railway bridge. My relatives lived in the cottage at Bowes Gate from when it was built (1850s or 1860s) up until my father's great-uncle George died in the 1960s. George was a linesman on the railway and a Methodist preacher, very well known and highly regarded. Until he was physically unable he lead the Boldon Carnival every year.

People still remember his wife and her sister (also our blood relatives as Uncle George was Aunt Polly's first cousin once removed) getting onto the Barnard Castle bus every Saturday morning with the wireless accumulators to be recharged. There was no electricity in the cottage until after Aunt Polly moved out and water was a hand pump in the garden.

The older family were previously at Barningham (not too far away) where they owned a pub. This pub was notorious and eventually the Church of England bought it so they could close it.

Well you picked the right weather for it. Its going to be glorious!! :D I passed your site just now about 7pm ish on the bike and gave you a pip!!!

Left the club site just before 11.
Took the route as stated in post #12.
Quite a few sections of narrow roads and switchbacks but OK for my PVC.
110 minutes to do 36 miles !!!!
A lovely drive though through beautiful scenery.
Stang forest has a couple of big chunks cut down.
Arrived at Heber farm campsite at 12.50.
It's right on the edge of Buckden village.
Having a walk soon. No pics yet.
It's ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ with a gentle breeze.

Only 2 minutes from a pub though. Hope it isn't too rowdy for you.
Had a quick walk but exactly what we expected.
Mostly a residential/holiday let village.
Pictchereresque and a pleasant walk.
Went past the pub but didn't check it's name!
But, having a pint there later.
Don't normally do pub meals though.
Having a short fell walk later.
It's hot here by the way.

Google says 1 hour and 18 minutes to do 36 miles. Milage about correct but it actually took 1hour 59 minutes!!!!

Thanks for sharing that part of your family history.

Really interesting.

Edit post #21, 1 hour 50 minutes.
It's only an estimate!

I had an official come out to see me at home and was told by his office that it only took 30 minutes from his office to here as they had route planning software. I did remark that the software obviously knew better than the locals. The journey took him 55 minutes and he was in a foul mood when he arrived. So much so I asked him to go outside, take a deep breath and change his attitude. I did get an apology. I said I had told his office the journey would take almost an hour especially as there were lots of agricultural vehicles on the road.

Thanks for sharing that part of your family history.

Really interesting.
Thank you. I wrote that family up and had it published for my Dad's family. I did the same for my Mum's paternal line and have started another book but lost the plot a little with not being 100% well.

Barney CCC site and town are really good. My son loves it. The walk through the Forrest is fab also. There's a CMC site down the lane, however I think it looks a bit soulless.

I maybe should have asked you what kind of van you have as your route was a bit "Challenging" if you were driving an 8m coachbuilt or a tag! PVC should be fine. Some tight bits as you discovered. It was a little busier than normal today I thought. Maybe the good weather.

Heber farm campsite looks really good.
