Looking to go in may. Need a beach side site within walking distance of civilisation ie restaurants and shops.
Any ideas?

Stayed here a few years ago. A few yards through the forest to the beach. Plenty of beach side bars bistros and an easy walk into Calvi along the beach boarded walkway. Also scenic railway along the coast with stop outside camping area.

Seasonal ferries from Nice but we sailed from Genoa to Bastia as we travelled from Austria through Italy.

DBK is your man to talk to, as I believe he toured Corsica a short while back, he may have even written another tour book by now, really great travel writer, so he is.:xThumb:
I seem to remember no wild camping is tolerated, and you may have to prove where you stayed if asked, when you catch the ferry back to the mainland.
It can also be expensive depending where you eat & drink, my missus went there years ago, on tight budget at the time, didn't work out so well, hitting the plastic hard.
Good luck.

When we went it was a lot cheaper and quicker to go from Genoa or Livorno. We originally intended to do Sardinia and Corsica in one trip but spent so much time enjoying Sardinia that we came back to Corsica the following year. Both are lovely but on balance Sardinia is the one we would go back to, Friendlier, more choices on places to stop and easier to get around. Corsica slightly edges it on prettiness but boy are they a miserable lot. This was 2012 2013

Miserable they haven’t met me😳

Changed date to june now would you book or just wing it. We are used to school holidays so normally book in advance but wife resigned from work so we can go anytime now.

We've been three times, [ hire car] fixed base, but absolutely loved it. Done a complete lap of the island, + mountainous, and forested middle spine of the island. The Corsicans regard themselves as a separate population to France, and do get the hump if assumed to be part of France, [ although the subsidies are quite nice thank you.]
We may well try for a M/H visit at some point. We loved the West coast, especially the Calanques area which is very picturesque.
Mike.

Always wing it. Never even book the retirn ferry until we're sure when and how we re coming back.

Calanques is quite tricky in a mh. Lots of scope for making yourself unpopular.

If you are looking for a beachside site with access to restaurants etc I wouldn't recommend Corsica. The joy of the island from a MH perspective is being able to tour around and enjoy the variety and scenery. Sardinia might fit the bill but it's even further away.

Thanks for your comments DBK we like a fixed base for a fortnight and enjoy the break and relaxation that provides. We enjoy a week meandering through france and the same on returning. Probably a different view to you and thanks for your post. Hope i dont appear rude but that is our preference.

I second the campsite at Calvi but don't limit yourself to that. You can drive down the West side. which is fabulous with loads of camping opportunities near the beach. Bonifacio is great but a bit pricey. Then come up the East as far as Porto Vecchio and cut inland across the mountains. Finally, don't miss Barcaggio at the northern tip. Not beachy but a delightful village with a nice campsite nearby.

There is a fantastic beach near Porto Vecchio with wild camping in the woods.

Corsica is fabulous. Been there twice and love it.

A visit to Palombaggia beach whilst in the Porto Vecchio region is worthwhile, it has been voted as one of the most picturesque beaches in Europe.

A good place to visit with a motorbike on our trailer ?

Perfect combination. The lower west coast drive [ Bonafacio Northwards] is a magnet for all French motorcyclist and on their "must do list".
Mike.

Actually - to correct myself, I said that Barcaggio didn't have a beach but I have looked at Google pictures and it appears to have rather a nice-looking beach.

We never found it
