So, we decided last night that we would head down to Porthleven/Penzance area for 3/4 nights, and so looking to pack the van today and travel down through the night on Thursday to miss a lot of the traffic.
I then suddenly realised in the night (it’s amazing the things that go through your head in the early hours!) that the G7 thingy is on.
so, my questions are:-
1. Will we even be able to get into Porthleven, or will the roads all be shut off around that area?
2. Is it madness even to think about heading into Cornwall this weekend?

Once there, we are not intending on travelling around, as are quite happy to walk the beach coastal path etc.
Anyone funsters living in that area, your local knowledge re the roads etc would be much appreciated.
thanks.

Tinker2 lives at Hayle, just around the bay a bit from the G7 meeting and he's not at all amused with the hassle the locals are being put through, but Porthleven and Penzance are on the South coast, so as long as you come in on the A39 and A394, then I would have thought you would be missing most of the shenanigans on the North coast.

All day parking Porthleven £2 at football club 👍 for long Motorhome
Short walk to harbour

There is speculation that there will be chaos, but there always is when something interesting and different happens down here, we're just not used to it:LOL:
But I'd say if we can cope with the influx of tourists during the school holiday times then I'm sure we'll cope with a few big wigs and a couple of journos.

But saying that, avoid St Ives/Carbis Bay/Falmouth/Newquay (y)

<M>

One thing I can tell you is you are not going into Carbis Bay😁.
You must expect delays disruption on the A30 when the Convoys are on the move, bridges closed whilst they pass through.
Falmouth/Truro and around Hayle/ St Ives is going to be busy, possible protest.
Loads of Police about, Helicopters aircraft Missile launcher at Gwithian/ Bomb sqaud/ police divers we have the lot.
Traffic hold ups are nothing new we are used to it.

Look who out getting a last few bits,.😁

I would be going somewhere else if I were you, with so many places closed tourists already here are heading for the open places which are few and far between. RNAS Culdrose is bristling with security and that isn't so far from Porthleven. Many locals are just staying at home. A39 has twice the normal amount of traffic according to the monitors ( I know I get the stats)

Tinker2.........................only in Cornwall :)
Nigel L Come on down, you will have the holiday of a lifetime rubbing shoulders with world dignitaries! and maybe a copper or two :-)

We were in the vicinity just before the half term chaos started. I’d avoid if you can. M5, a30 south bound were just car parks. We popped into st ives and the security had already started on the outskirts. Speaking to a local in a shop who said that the Roads leading into st ives will be closed for the duration. these things have a tendency to spill out into other areas Of Cornwall. I’m not a local, I’d take their advise.

Big mistake… leave it till next weekend, road closures at the drop of a hat for hours and your going to be around culdrose and you will need proof of where your staying and two forms of id… it’s not pleasant around Cornwall at the moment…

Hi Smiffy, I was thinking of going over to Poldhu on Sunday, googled for any restrictions around the Culdrose area but couldn't find anything, can you let us know if what you say is concrete?
Cheers

We are right next to Porthleven now (Praa Sands)

It isn't too bad atm, just a lot of extra Police/check points and the odd military air show

Apart from short trips for food etc on the bike, we'll stay put until after the weekend.

its great down here.
bring all your savings and dont forget your wife and daughters etc .
hand your cash over to the man on the horse at the border on entry.
we will look after the females .
have fun .

I’m currently in Hayle and the roads around St Ives will be closed plus a lot of Police presence over the last few days.

Key closures:

  • The A3074 road to St Ives from the A30 closed to all traffic from 9am BST on June 10 until 11:59pm on June 13.
  • The Old Coach Road via Halsetown will be used to provide access to St Ives and delays are expected.
  • All beaches other than Carbis Bay will be accessible.
  • The section of the South West Coast Path which runs through the Carbis Bay Hotel will be closed with a temporary diversion in place.
  • In Falmouth both Grove Place and Maritime car parks will be closed between May 27 and June 19. The car park in Church Street will be closed for pay and display from June 10 to 13.
  • Road closures and restrictions around Cornwall Airport Newquay will be in place from 6pm BST on June 9 to 11.59pm BST on June 13.
  • Some restricted areas in St Ives and Falmouth will require residents and business workers to provide two forms of identification to gain access.
  • A number of car parks in Falmouth will also be closed as the town on the south coast of Cornwall hosts the world's media.

I see your in Cornwall, it depends on which way your going there lots of activity at culdrose and local roads can close with no warning… you should be ok but expect some delays…
My comment was for mainly for funsters coming to tour around Cornwall over the next week… not much fun if your stuck in one place and sitting in a closure for hours…

Wasn't bad in Falmouth today, police everywhere and space in park and ride. Space too in Ghilly car park

Been at Vanbitz since yesterday, hopefully van back in a few hours then off to Bude tomorrow.

So, Van now all packed, just put the water in, filled up with Diesel and lpg, and heading off at 9pm this evening and travelling through the night.
Hopefully be in the Penzance area by 5am, before all the mayhem kicks off again👍

We’re off to Cornwall for a week as well, we will all have to report back on our experiences!

We’re at St Merryn, 2 miles out of Padstow. No problem driving down, infact it was our fastest trip from Bath ever!

Just been into Wadebridge - no traffic at all.

The only difference we noticed were police cars everywhere and Protest banners on the bridges over the A30.

Oh, and this is our view - bleddy sea mist ….

The sea is beyond that green field!

We travelled to porthleven today. No problems on the roads. Lots of police in evidence as well as climate protesters on bridges but no problems.
Weather not so good but set to improve.
