Got a rare question for you guys . Year 2000 , fiat 2.8 , 230L tdi , based Hymer , got a strange headlight dipping adjustment .
Yep it's work list time again , those of you who read my posts in the " what have you fixed thread" , will know what that means . Rerouting the headlight leveller tube , i added the continental conversion for dip beam aim to the list . Now i can adjust from left to right dip , however despite viewing several threads discussing this topic , none seem to refer to my set up .
I have three grub screws , all of the same length , but no lock screw . In fact , i don't even have a place for the lock screw to locate , only three slides . I can change the dip pattern , but it's not an easy thing to do , actually it appears more luck than anything else . Loosening the screws , it didn't move , not really surprised , the screws were tight . I had already lubricated it , so i loosened a bit more , made no difference , nope . Started twisting it back and forth , it moved a fraction . So two hands , a bit of manipulation , ah there we go , strange now it won't go back . Ah thinks me , seized , so i gives it a big dose of WD40 , which made no difference at all . Bit more manipulating , it popped back , and locked up again .
I have little doubt it was seized to a degree to start with , as it now turns the full movement in one , but its a bit hit and miss as to when this actually happens . The other thing is i had to pretty much cut the inner wing out , to remove it , so i seriously doubt anyone's being in there for a long time , actually i would question ever ! . But now my question turns to this locking screw , or lack off . Was there another system used in the 90's not readerly discussed , or even rarely considered for locking the adjustment . Something built into the lamp itself perhaps , fitted to the early 2.5's maybe . The body's made of plastic , so getting heavy handed will not end well , as i'm sure you can guess .
Oh and before anyone brings it up , i know WD40 it not the right lubricant for plastic , that's down to me , i slipped up there .
