How do others contact campsites when on travels? I’ve hada few occasions lately where I’ve emailed ahead to confirm a place on a site and haven’t had a reply. Unless I know there are several options at our destination I’ve completely changed our itinerary.
Other sites have responded quickly confirming availability. Much more reassuring,
My mobile phone plan is quite pricey to make calls, and my Spanish is rudimentary
We normally travel in the winter so just turn up but weekends are starting to get busy.
Any advice? Thx

If getting confirmation of a space is important then you have to phone. Maybe investigate other sim deals that you can switch in and out of, some only tie you in for a month.

Rarely phone ahead, though there are a couple of sites we use regularly where we like a particular pitch. With these we do phone ahead, just avoid phoning the French at lunchtime and the Spanish during their siesta. Only the biggest sites have the office manned all day.

The only site we've booked ahead abroad is one in France, which has an online system so can make a reservation 12-48 hours in advance. It's a popular place, so worth making arrangements. We prefer not to make commitments ahead when travelling overseas. (y)

We had rowntree booked Fri sat but decided to set off Thursday, picked a CL( dyke bottom farm ), emailed , called a landline and a mobile , no reply so we set off anyway , stopped ½ way for food and called again
This time a reply where I was informed they don't take one night bookings , brilliant , no mention of that on the CAMC site that I could see

Luckily there was another CL a few miles away (lower banks farm )who were accommodating.

In Spain I rarely book ahead, just turn up, but because weekends starting Friday are always busy in more recent years with locals arriving I try to never arrive on a Friday anymore in busy or coastal areas.

If I have to, I ring ahead. My Spanish is pretty good but I have always found that the reception staff speak very good English if needed.

I have emailed at other times but this I’ve found to be hit and miss.

Thanks for your replies. I take on board the suggestions, all makes sense.

We’ve been in Spain and Portugal since the beginning of April and the only thing we have booked is the ferry.

Thanks, we usually travel well out of season and never book except for Easter. We’ve been a bit concerned about finding space at weekends, guess we just need to make sure we avoid arriving on a Friday. So far, three weeks into our trip we’ve only encountered one full site.
