Going to Epernay next month for a few days and normally arrive late and leave early from CdE. So where is a good place to stop within an hour of Calais heading towards Reims that is easy to find, guaranteed place. No requirement for food, electricity or a view although not discounting.
On return anywhere within 10 miles which might include Boulogne perhaps the Auchun?

Can't recommend any, but Searchforsites or Campercontact show many places to stay at.

On the point in the thread title about Aire closing, there are also new aires opening. Details of canges to Aires and othe useful an interestng stuff can be found in the monthly website news bulletin on

I have never understood the attraction of CDE.

There are thousands of threads on motorhome forums including this one about its problems, it possible and eventual closure.

Now here we have yet another new thread about it closing.

A simple search of this, any forum or Dedicated app will bring up countless alternatives to CDE.

Gravelines.

Wissant, close to nice town, good walk on beach, always got a place when early enough and always seems safe. There last November and only half full

Accessing the knowledge of those on here might be considered one of the benefits of the forum.
CdE is closed and done with so this is not about it being closed - it's about the alternatives - hence the title.
I was trying to have a handy list of those sites which are nearby which was not polluted with the love/hate it posts and easily found in the French Forum. Judging by the number of British vans that used to use CdE I thought it would help others as well.

I stayed in Wissant Tuesday plenty of space but well frequented, so don't arrive too late. At 1800hrs it had about 10 vans in and others arrived after me.

I have used the Auchan car park in Boulogne, and had a very quiet and uneventful night. I intend heading straight there next time, we normally get off the tunnel in the early hours.

This aire is about 30 to 40 mins from Calais in the direction of Reims. Stayed on it a few times.
