So Kim and I hope to spend Christmas in Spain - but where do we stay? We are happy to book a campsite for 6 to 8 nights. However, we are not snobs but Benidorm with every camper on top of us is a definite no no. We love views nice, food/booze company, but not load music.
Last year we had a wonderful time travelling through central Spain - so we don’t need the coast.
Suggestions welcome.

It might depend on many factors, including your interests but non-coastal Spain tends to be much cooler during the winter so fewer people stay there. For the best weather, probably Malaga Province.

Spain is a country that gets hot days during the winter. In the south you can travel 30 minutes one way and go skiing or the same in the opposite direction and sunbathe on a beach. If you want it warm head for the coast if you like it cooler head for the hills.

We have spent the last two Christmas Eve and day in Seville, lots bars etc open Christmas Day, buses running, most bars close 4 or 5'ish Christmas Eve. Camperstop/coachpark near to centre €15, need to like doing things in the Spanish way though.......don't expect Turkey:Smile:

We've booked in at Villajoyosa, south of Benidorm.

It DID??? have a rally organised by CCC but they've pulled out of Winter Sun Rallies this year so there might be some slack in the availability of pitches.

I posted the following before.
CCC seem to have 'suggested' to sites that they MUST direct potential customers from the UK into booking through them. At one end of the scale, Ria Formosa in Tavira in Portugal would not, even when they had availability and I was standing in front of them, accept a booking there and then.
On the phone to Alicante Imperium, (where we're booked in), they started by trying to steer me in the CCC direction but when I told him I had membership of Club Voyage and to book with CCC without using the ferry would incur CCC's £75 charge,, he accepted my booking.

As an aside and in these COVID times, I was assured that, should I have to cancel for any reason, I would only lose €8 of my deposit providing I gave them three days notice of non arrival.

In Spain just ask for the 'Hojas de reclamacíon' That should put a stop to it. Additionally make a complaint in the Uk via anyone & everyone. It isn't legal.

yes we did if for 5 years

In the last five yrs Spain have created a lot of french style aires (They call them area's). In addition, especially immediately away from the coasts there are numerous wild camping spots.
'Search for Sites', 'Campercontact' and 'Park4night' are your friends in this regard.

We like Almeria region in the winter around the Majocar, Garrucha, Vera Playa & Palomares area. A good amount going on, but definitely not Benidorm.

We generally stay at Cuevas Mar, Palomares. Friendly and relaxing - plenty of Brits, lovely bar/restaurant 2 minutes walk away - Monika's. It's an ACSI site €18, and there's a secluded part reserved for naturists.

We had a look around this British-owned place, which is low cost (from €11 euro) and in the countryside, only two or three miles out of town and the coast. Simple, low-key, but apparently extremely popular with C&CC members (probably because of the price and location). We haven't stayed however, and you would need a vehicle or bike to get anywhere. But good mountain views, and the beaches and resorts not too far away. Mojacar Camping - Cañada Camp Site, Turre, Almeria.

Cappuccino - Spanish-style at Monika's and the van pitched at Cuevas Mar in January this year.

A bit different

Basically, thermally heated pool. Loved that part

Wild camping is not always tolerated in Spain, like it used to be. Almeria has the most temperate weather generally, through the winter. We like some of the Spanish Aires, better than many of the campsites, the odd one is free but for a limited time. The ones you pay for allow you to stay for longer. They are cheaper than campsites.

We like this one, which is not far from Alicante. There is also a tram stop, which will take you into Alicante, or all the way to Benidorm. The beach here is fabulous and there are bars and restaurants all along the front.

Spanish campsites are like marmite. We've been to some that were awful, we've also been to some that were recommended which also turned out to be awful. These days I would never book a Spanish campsite that I hadn't been to before.

We are booked in there from Dec 30 which we booked as we left during March, not decided whether to go or not yet.

The problem with following recommendations is that we all like different things. I have never booked a Spanish campsite that I had not previously visited, in fact only ever booked one and that was because they only had one pitch that we could get on.

We found Bonterra Park in Benicassim great last Xmas and New Year...super friendly, really clean, really fully booked but I guess this year may be a bit emptied. Lovely Spanish town just a short walk away.

We were down in Isla Plana early on Friday morning for a couple of hours snorkelling before anyone else put in an appearance. Absolutely teeming with beautiful fish. Will probably do the same again this week. Obviously Mazarron has my vote for a good place to be in winter but then again we do live here!
The campsite at Bolnuevo is always very popular in winter (I think you would have to book). There is also a new Greek restaurant opened this week in Bolnuevo which is good news that businesses are still opening in these uncertain times.
