Chargemetrix

Can't see much point in it. My batteries are taken care of by solar so I don't need to worry about them and when I'm in the van I can see what's going on.

I was thinking that Lenny the only time it may come in handy is when my van is in storeage over winter.

It would be very handy to know the state of batteries especially if the storage site wasn't close where you can keep an eye on them easily.

Slight diversion but how can I find out if my starter battery is being charged by my solar panels ?

The voltage will be around 14.4v if charging or 13.6v in float

I can see on my internal panel the the volts are 14.4 or is it 14.2. But that is the leisure batteries. How do I find out the voltage of the starter battery ? What’s a float ?

Float is a reduced voltage & current stage that the charger reduces to once the batteries are charged. It keeps the battery topped up without any risk of overcharging. Normally 13.8v limited to 1 or 2 amps.

On your B class Hymer I think you have an LCB display panel, you should be able to select starter battery voltage with one of the buttons. If not, measure the battery voltage with a multimeter.
If the battery is not getting any charge it will be sitting around 12.7v and gradually reducing. If it is being charged it will be between 13.8 float voltage and 14.4v full charge voltage.

Ah right thanks Lenny HB and Diabalo. Electricity is not my forte. I read the latest article in Motorhome Fun magazine called What’s Watt. The premise of it was that it was for laymen...but what sort of laymen...Nobel prize winning Electricity Professors ? Had to go and have a lie down after reading it. Will try and get my LCB to show starter battery voltage.

I have just bought a multimeter funnily enough. It has lots of numbers a dial and some wires coming out of it....no idea how to use it. At a guess I put one prod on the positive terminal and the other on either the negative or somewhere else. Then look at the dial I suppose. If you don’t here from me again you will know I have been electrocuted.

I like that chart makes it nice and simple & easy to understand.(y)

Youtube is your friend for simple to understand multimeter instruction guides.

Diabalo Luckily I didn’t have to resort to multimeter Lenny HB was right can switch my LCB to starter battery.
Assume this must mean my solar panels are charging it. Cheers all.

Yep assuming you aren't on EHU.
Nope...not on EHU....wish I was...it would mean I’d be cruising around Europe somewhere ☹️

that Menue button doesn’t seem to do much...press it but nothing else appears....any ideas
