I have gas , burp , sorry but I’m after a small charcoal bbq for two people , enough for two 8 oz steaks and looking for recommendations . My existing cassette style one has a rotten grill and is on its last legs . Suggestions welcome

I buy my portable BBQs from Asda, gas or charcoal. They often have small portables of both types. You get what you pay for, but I'm too lazy to be trusted with an expensive one, so need something I'm not going to cry over.

Another vote for the Webber Go Anywhere as perLandy Andy. Just the best. We even used it for indirect cooking of a small joints with charcoal one end only quite regularly. You get what you pay for

And another vote for it. Excellent piece of kit and I’m sure it would meet your requirements

Buy a ventilated BBQ - cup full of charcoal, ready to go in 10 minutes
Look for lidl florabest or aldi gardenline or premium priced lotus

We also have the Weber and it is excellent - 15 years old and still going strong!
Have to say the Lotus is very pretty though!

Absolutely fantastic are these type of BBQ’s.
Look for a make from Leisurewize ( spelling correct) called a Yoga Grill.
About £60.
Have one myself and ideal for 2 to 4 persons, can be placed on a table when cooking, are cool to touch the exterior and can be completely dismantled to go in a dishwasher as the battery operated fan mechanism is a removable unit.
And it has a cast iron cooking grid!
The original Lotus Grill concept, of which this is a copy, are around £175.
No brainer really, if you like the idea.
And they use a tiny amount of lump wood charcoal.
👍

Do those Lotus style grills require batteries ?

Yes.
They power a small fan in the base.
Get the coals fired up & ready to cook in double quick time.
You can then have an element of heat control, turning the fan up or down.
Batteries last ages [ 4x AA IIRC ]

We have the Lotus Grill. The fan runs off four AA batteries and also has a usb cable if batteries fail. Brilliant piece of kit

Think they need to get a new demonstration chef.....I would not thank you for those burnt offerings from any BBQ.!!!
I agree - sure I spotted a bit of pink in the middle of the sausage & the centre of the steak was raw...
...but what do you expect when the claimed cooking time was less than 7 mins.

The video was just a demo of how the bbq works.
Crap cooking skills are crap cooking skills regardless of the source of heat.

we love ours except the control knob stopped working and the repair kit that costs £14 hasn't been in stock for 3 months now so bought a weber smokey joe for £75.

I have got a small Webber which is good and a bigger Webber that I use at home.

I do wonder though why bbq’s tend to be round in shape?

It doesn’t make any sense when you are cooking for a lot of people.

Those barrel types are better I think.

We love our Lotus and it has been going strong now for 5 years. You can get them in a range of colours too, ours is of course orange to match the van.

Another vote for the Weber Go Anywhere.
I also have a Weber kettle at home and the reason they are mainly round in shape, as Chris was asking, is that Weber originally made ocean marker bouys.
The advantage that the Weber has over the Lotus and most others, is that the Webers can be also used for indirect cooking, low and slow as well as smoking.

Weber Smokey Joe 👍 good charcoal, natural firelighters and we use one of these to get it going nicely.
