I saw ,on the news, the roads to Dover were rammed with trucks waiting for ferries. Also the trucks were parked up on the motorway waiting.
Has anyone tried to get across to France via the ferries? If so, how did you get on?

we had this happen to us on 31/3/22 6am driving to the tunnel the ferry traffic jammed up everything

It seems that it's mainly HGV's as 'tourists' are diverted to avoid the jams.
See this thread started on Sunday......

Came down on Wednesday, used backroads that sat nav took us on, stayed overnight at the Dog house (Brit stop) should have been a fifteen minute drive next morning using A20 to junction 11, 90 minutes later we got to the Chunnel, wagons all parked wherever they could so the main roundabout was seriously congested, then the usual dick heads that decide they’re more important than everyone else so push in blocking the entry/exit points on the roundabout, there was nothing on the M20 east bound but for whatever reason highways England had blocked one of the lanes on the slip road causing even more congestion.
We set off at 06:30 for a 09:20 crossing, they put us on a 08:50 train so happy enough with that 👍

So, do they stop motorhomes somewhere and direct them directly to the ferry to avoid the trucks?

The M20 is closed and the M2 has 15 miles of queueing traffic at the moment. Not good down here. If you are travelling to the port or tunnel leave plenty of time.

This is a problem that has blighted our lives for years. Everyone dashing around trying to find ways of getting out of the town to go about our normal lives. The latest problem now is the garages are running out of fuel because tankers cannot get through. Absolutely fed up with it all. Every year and almost every holiday period the locals have to deal with this.

No follow the A20 to junction 11 then the motorway is clear, we’ll it was up to the Chunnel👍

I came down Stone Street to M20 J11 yesterday (as you would if coming from Canterbury P+R), the roundabout where you would get onto the M20 to go to the tunnel was blocked by HGVs at the time. Eventually I did get through ( I was going towards Hythe, not joining the motorway). When I came back HGVs were causing a problem where I would join the A20 coming up from Lympne and again blocking the roundabout and were also creating problems with other junctions onto the A20 and causing a nuisance by parking on verges etc. Things did move slowly and I got through, Stone Street was then very quiet going back to Canterbury.

Went down on Wednesday.

Traffic was awful once you got towards Folkestone. Made even worse by picking up a puncture. Thankfully Tyrepal picked it up and had a quick stop at Ashford to get it sorted.

Only advice is to leave lots of time. I have a satnav that has live updates and it didn’t pick up the closures as they were so fluid.

No diesel in Folkestone either.

It’s about time the Government sorted the debacle. We are so reliant on the Dover routes it seems a bit foolish to leave it to private business to sort with the obvious results. I feel for those living there, it must be awful.

We went to tunnel Wednesday, Satnav directed us off at j7 and off towards Canterbury then to Folkestone to go to Abbeywell vet for AHC, stopped at Folkestone Tesco and filled up with diesel no problem ( £1.769 litre) and still got put on a train 1 hour early.

Diesel in France was €1.78 today. Annoyingly I filled up in UK too. :-(
