Hymer B534
Exp
Since 2005
Just before Lockdown we changed our Moho from an Elddis Firestorm for a Classic Hymer B534. The upholstery in Rosie was moss green and everything I bought was green to match ! The Hymer has the classic blue worktops and floor so everything has to be changed......... I've just spent two days trying to find a Melaware/Melamine crockery set in a blue TRADITIONAL design - such as Victorian flowers or a lacy all over pattern. All I seem to find is stripes/spots/abstract or purely plain blue. I've tried eBay, all the big department stores, supermarkets and of course various motorhome and caravan dealers, all on line, without success. Any ideas, please ?

We have been building up out Corelle plates & bowl collection over the last few years. We love them, lightweight, durable, many patterns but we go plain white, they stack nicely too. Expensive, some would say, but well worth it, as we dont like plastic glasses or plates.
Sorry if you have already looked at these, they are very popular, for good reason, they are great.

Do you REALLY need to change it all? Sometimes having a contrasting colour works better than having everything the same. If there's nothing wrong with your existing stuff it seems an unnecessary expense ... you could spend it on some wine or grub instead! :giggle:

Ugh! Melamine.... plastic and stains. Corelle ware is tough, you can warm plates and it does not stain. Shame the bowls are so small but otherwise, it’s good stuff, not cheap, but good. I’ve heard that IKEA do something similar.

The Ikea range is probably the SAMTIDIG it's made from tempered glassware similar to Corelle and pyrex.
We have the Corelle but looking at the Ikea to supplement it.

Hey you knockers. Stop knocking the OP. If she (assumption) wants to colour coordinate stuff in her new van then that is perfectly understandable.

The excitement of a new van is not just the van itself, but fitting it out. New cushions and throws, maybe mats and towels. In the grand scheme of things, compared to the price of the van, these things are hardly expensive. If it makes you happy, I say fill your boots. It is our home away from home after all.

We have tin plates, works for us.

We've got the IKEA tempered glass stuff in plain white its great.

We just use ordinary plates bowls etc and ordinary glass glasses. Its been years since we've broken anything. All this unbreakable stuff is unnecessary expense.
Another vote for ordinary crockery. Have fulltimed for over 9 years using it without any problems. Loathe melamine.

We’ve had Corelle for years now, same set as they last, they don’t stain, they are light, stack well, I would never go back to Melamine!
We use Bone China mugs, handle any weight in them either.

Another vote for Corelle, we have the plain white with a few bits from Ikea.

I’m like the OP though and had great fun when we bought our new van making sure everything was colour co-coordinated. We spend weeks if not months normally in what is a small space compared to our large detached 4 bed house so why on earth wouldn’t I want it to look nice. If you can afford to then why not? Some people spend a fortune on booze, the horses or motorbikes. A few bits of crockery , cushions and a new kettle is hardly Hollywood wives!

I have Churchill crockery, both at home & in the van - never broken anything

Huge variety of colours, shapes & sizes - including blue willow if that's your thing

Keep everything you already have and buy 2 pairs of rose tinted sunglasses..... Cheap and practical ...Simples!:cool::cool:

Lighten up peeps. We is only gently pulling your leg. It's actually the sort of thing "management" would go in for if she got half a chance! We have more cushions in the van than we need by a large margin.
Has anyone ever had a motorhome "garage" sale?(y)

Thanks everyone for your replies - especially those who understand the essential need to change everything to match the new (to us) van! Probably comes from many years as a single mum, counting every penny, second hand furniture etc, bed from Sally Army cost £2 in 1965 !!!! Now I can afford to splash out and not having our usual three months in Antibes this year means there's more in the kitty for what some consider unnecessary. Partner's son has just bought an old VW so my old stuff will find a good home. I like the idea of Corelle, already have some IKEA bits in my kitchen. I just thought it might be heavier than melamine but will certainly have a rethink. Thanks again and enjoy the news at 9 o'clock - quarantine dropped from 6 July for France etc!

We use the IKEA stuff too. Had it for several years now and of course if they ever do break (which is highly unlikely!) they'll be easy to match being plain white! and of course only 50p a piece!

We bought a 2nd lot as we bought a caravan and the newer bowls are a bit deeper so we'e swapped 2 of them over so we have 2 of the shallow bowls (cereal) and 2 of the deeper bowls (soup) in both the motorhome and the caravan!

Have decided that if we ever need to buy new plates for home we'll buy the same ones.
