CCC Winter Sun Rallies 20/21 All Cancelled

I was trying to find out about the Aquarius rally in September, (site opens the 26th of June) but I guess that if the Winter program is off the Summer ones have no chance of going ahead

Summer Sun Aquarius is the last of the summer rallies and was cancelled last month. If you have been to the Aquarius Rally before Sam the rally steward has started a group on Facebook called CCC Aquarius Costa Brava and we are all hoping to have a get together in the U.K. in September details on the fb group

Thanks for that. I am hopeful that in September we will be in Spain

On the CCC Almafra fb group posted by Tina Edwards long time steward of the rally so guessing they are being informed ahead of us the members

Whilst I feel for, obviously the peeps who use CCC Winter Sun Rallies, I can't help but feel a little smug at a certain site in Portugal (oh! alright, Ria Formosa), who wouldn't allow one through the door unless you had booked with them previously or had booked via the CCC. They then crammed us on a single pitch, measuring 7mts x 7mts. and suggested we were doing them a favour.

We have booked privately with another site in Spain who, without being as arsey as Ria, had obviously been 'Got at' by the CCC. They tried to be kind in telling us that by doing so, we would get a better deal.
However, when I informed them of the £75 Booking Fee if the ferry wasn't booked with the CCC they accepted my booking.

Looks like there will be some spare places on site throughout the Iberian Pen. this Winter.

Don't often do sites but did stay there with my mate 3 or 4 years ago booked direct managed to get a cancellation. Had a double pitch. What I did notice quite a few pitches roped off with reserved for C&CC notice on them but they were empty for weeks seamed a bit weird.

Just a question. What does your comment mean.

We were told on arriving there last Winter that they would not accept us unless we had booked through the CCC.
Are you saying that last Winter there wasn't a Rally there?

The ethos and management of the site is weird in the extreme.

There never has been a rally, it is possible, and necessary at certain times, to book pitches through the C&CC but no organised rally.

The site has a long standing arrangement with the C&CC, and also the CMC for the last few years, to reserve a number of pitches for their members.

With a lot of pitches pre booked year on year it seems that the only way to reserve a pitch is through one of the clubs.

We stayed there and can't remember if there was a rally, but we booked direct with the site, normally I would consult the other motorhomer that also stayed, but being well known for not using campsites I wouldn't want his people after me. ☺ Bob.

I appreciate that you have/had a pitch at Ria Formosa however, I can only speak as I found (not find) in relation to this site.
We were initially refused entry but, miraculously offered a single pitch on arrival last Winter.
On arriving at said pitch, the lady on the next pitch told us that, unknown to the site operators, she was leaving the following day. She stated that as a result of her husbands stroke (you probably know them,) she was departing, leaving a double pitch a month early.
When we approached the site, they still refused us a double pitch and instead, crammed four units on four single pitches (and thereby increasing revenue if not tempers).

Just as a finale, could I draw your attn. to the below which states that Ria Formosa is (or was) being used as a rally venue last Winter. In addition and in agreement with Lenny HB, many a pitch was roped off for the entire duration of our stay there for the benefit of some absent member of CCC Bizarre doesn't enter into it.

I make no apologies for the actions of the staff here which can indeed sometimes seem to be strange but I am sure they have their reasons though I personally have had no problems and found most of them very helpful.

Regarding the rally, Ria Formosa is listed under 'Destination sites and rallies' , Ria Formosa is a destination site and not a rally site, if you look more closely the words 'and rally' are after the name of the rally sites.

The site has been very popular over the last few years and I believe that they have not taken direct bookings for certain periods, December to March, for a while now due to repeat bookings and I believe that due to contractual obligations they have to keep a number of double pitches available for the C&CC.

I assume this contract was entered into in the early days of the site in order to become established, obviously I have no idea of the details or how long it will last.

Booking direct is always a possibility, but to get a reasonable rate on a 50-60 night stay requires a big up front cash commitment. This is fine if all goes well, however if there is a second wave, or government directives stopping you taking that pitch, I doubt any insurance cover would be forthcoming and deposits or even full advance payment might be non-refundable.

Hi Lenny, like yourself I rarely do sites and don't do foreign winter rallies for the very reason you mentioned I.e. roped off pitches, which are usually better quality plots in terms of better views, or better positioned for site entrance or more convenient for showers etc, all to "clicky" for my liking, especially as pitches are supposed to be allocated on a first come first served basis, aren't they, and then when you query the reason for this isolation of pitches they've always got an answer like they're resting the pitch for it to recover or ground is a bit soft, etc etc, all things which I have had first hand experience of, so no thanks they can keep their winter rally sites I prefer being a FLT (Fun Loving traveller) & not be restricted by their sometimes petty rules and "Clickiness".

I've used CCC Winter Rally sites very successfully, and one in particular I have stayed in probably 8 or 9 times in the last 17 years, since retiring in 2003. The pitches are usually on a first come first served basis, no problem. I usually stay anything from 2-6 week and take pot-luck. However some folks come every year for 4-6 months and understandably like to return to "their" pitch.

I don't have a problem with that, if the rally steward is doing his job and knows "Charlie" is coming in February for 4 months and likes A17, why shouldn't he manage the space accordingly?
