I’m a newbie
Looking to buy a back up, just in case we get a flat battery ? 😀 anyone got a ‘BUTURE ‘ jump start pack have been told not a bad bit of kit only looking to spend about £50-60 pound 🤔the one with usb connect points on it or anything else you Happy campers use. Cheers.

Not familiar with the make but Sealey or Clarke’s are very reliable. Between £80 and £100.00. Remember you are starting a Diesel engine.

NOCO Boost, had one for a long time now & well worth the extra few pennies.

Be sure to learn how to use it, many people stick it on the battery then go straight to cranking the engine, wrong! Then they moan about the gadget.
It goes onto the battery then leave it for minimum of 2mins but 5 mins are better.

We use bestek from amazon. Currently unavailable, but very reasonably priced and used a few times with no complaints.

I have just purchased one of these. The reviews are very good. I can't speak from experience though as have only just received it. They are currently on sale on Amazon.

Why are you expecting to get a flat battery? Serious question.
If you have a good battery and a means of recharging it regularly, you are unlikely to have a problem. This will be through: EHU,or solar, or driving.
Coupled with keeping a check on your batteries daily.

As said I rely on solar to avoid the problem of flat batteries but I always had a set of heavy jump start leads from my Landrover days.
I have used the winch battery to boost the vehicle battery so I suppose you could do that with the leisure battery as a last resort.

Solar does it for me
I thought that having a solar panel but last year the day before the ferry I turned the key and guess what, yes dead flat battery. I now have the van on a time switch, at home, and it gets 4 hours on mains over night to boost the batteries 👍

See ‘sillious sodus ‘ reply it does happen.

I have had the same for a couple of years after been recommended by a friend its been excellent so far 👍

Just get jump leads that are long enough to join your hab bat to your starter bat.

I used a car-to-car cable device* to conect the 12v socket from hab battery to 12v socket in dash. It has LEDs to tell you when it's time to disconnect the lead.. After about 20 minutes there was enough charge in the starter battery to start a 2.5 diesel engine. All it needs is patience.

[*orignially from Halfords but I can't see it on their website so it might be discontinued.]

I also have one of those lithium powerbank wossnames; successfully started the neighbour's car with that, but haven't needed it for the PVC (touch wood).

Mr. Abulancekid
Interested in this kit.
Why the 5 mins delay before cranking the engine?
Thanks
Iain

Interested in this also.
Would it, by any chance, be capable of being attached to a leisure battery instead, to be used in an emergency if the leisure 12v system went down.
Thinking it might be an alternative to a second leisure battery, but ONLY as an emergency.
Space a bit tight for a second battery in my Moho.
Thanks.

Serious question.
I take it that the polarity of the connection going INTO the 12v cig lighter is reversed for this lead to take current in, as a normal plug going into the cig lighter is taking current out?
Or have I got this completely wrong?
Ta very much.

I don't think you want to change the polarity, otherwise you'd be creating a short circuit and you'd get massive currents (and so heat!). Positive to positive should just drive both batteries to the same voltage. If there is enough in the leisure battery the half-way point should be enough to get the engine battery going. An issue could be to limit the current flows between the higher voltage and lower voltage to not have excessive internal current flows within the batteries themselves. Please note: I am speaking theoretically, I haven't actually tried this but it seems a great idea.

The jump starter booster runs power into the battery, you should really do the same with normal jump leads, leave the donor car running to bring both batteries up to some power before trying.

Thanks, but I am unsure of this idea, so think will go for a booster pack system similar or same as Mr. Ambulancekid mentioned
Thanks for the reply though.

That's what I used to use on my 1972 VW Bay. The guy I sold it to told me the starter was shot and was draining the start battery all the time. If it needs jumping ever, better to fix the fault than work around it.

i have the very same one and yes, I have had reason to use it on the motorhome when flat, 3.0L engine. it worked an absolute treat. Connected, left for a few minutes then turned the key. turned over just like a full battery.
