We’ve just been reading a thread on car hire from sites in the UK. We usually take our little car on an a-frame here, but we’re off to France in August. A-frames being illegal there, and our trailer is getting more of an overhead to handle as we get older, hiring a car is getting more attractive. Does anyone have experience of this? Getting a car delivered and picked up would be a definite plus.

This year, we’re going to the Royan area, and from there to Provence.

Yup, we’re off in September and was also wondering if anyone has experience of hiring cars at sites they have stayed at? And if the hire also allows you move to other areas in France, and drop of car at a different site? Appreciate any sensible reply…..the odd funny would not go amiss 😂😂😂

I've done it in Spain a few years ago.
Just ask at reception, pay your money and the car is delivered and collected when finished with.
The larger companies should be okay with visiting different areas, it only becomes problematic if you want to leave the country of origin.

French Super 'U' supermarkets often have a car rental spot. Used them when camping near Bergerac, easy walk to the store, no advanced booking needed. Handy for touring the wine region around St Emilion/Bordeaux/Bergerac etc.

We've done it once with JJ ... . I mention JJ just because as an English he had to show his papers to be able to drive the car. And I know for sure that you, English, having 2 parts , you have to show both parts. I just can't remember which renter it was. All I know is that we rented it in Toulouse , went to Germany with it, and once I bought Max there, JJ took the car and I drove the Moho to the nearest point after the border where we could leave the rented car, and came back together in Max.

Here is a link to compare the renters. I let you do the job to copy paste on Google translate

Intermarché does renting as well and for a good price!

Have used enterprise in various countries.price has always been reasonable.main reason though they will coll and return you.
Sometimes a campsite will have a deal on with a local firm which offers the same service.
That said have never had to hire a car in France because of the amount of parking that's available for M/H in most areas
