Our new to us came with a Snipe satellite dish.

It worked once, locked on to a Astra 2 fine and I enjoyed watching my newly purchased tv on the comfort of my own drive.

The dish retracted fine, when I turned off the 12 v system overnight, and now will not go up again.

It makes some grinding noise then all the lights on the controller flash.

I have tried disconnecting the 12v supply and turning it on again, but to no avail.

Any suggestions anyone?

Possibly the gear mechanism is worn.
Common fault on the original Snipes.
An update to the gear mechanism was the main change to the Snipe 2.
Think they've been upgraded again on the Snipe 3.

Low Voltage ?

Sounds like the gears are shot.
A Snipe 2 will fit the same mounting plate and uses the same cables. The new Snipe 3 will probably fit as well but need to check.

We had a Snipe roof mounted on our previous Adria Matrix van, we had similar issues, and as it was still under warranty it was replaced. The replacement also failed and was again replaced. It was then claimed that Snipe was unsuitable for roof mounting, despite our dealer fitting it on the supplied mount. When we upgraded to our Burstner last year we didn't bother swapping it over. We were at Chelston a couple of months ago, and our old van was there at the same time, still with the Snipe on the roof.
We now use a free standing Maxview dish.

Ours has been mounted on the roof for three years and trouble free except when I tried to move it with snow on it. That made the gears rattle a bit and up set it but once it had thawed out I made sure the power was off and went on the roof, manually setting it to the parked position and it has worked fine since. Maybe worth a try putting it manually into the parked position if it is not already going there.

Thank you Sue, and well spotted. Wheal Betsy is just up the round from where we live and run Mary Tavy PO & Stores.

Wheal Betsy also features on the business logo and uniform.

We'll call in and say hello if passing your way. We have spent many hours letterboxing, and until last year I worked for the DNP ranger and access service. We now live on the coast just outside Plymouth
