I read earlier today that the Caravan Salon at Dusseldorf was going to be a week later in September this year. If it does go ahead it’s not going to have much on show if other companies follow Hymer’s lead.
To be fair she has been pretty patientI was told a few months ago that we were not going Jon.

I think we only ordered at DD because she was sick of being dragged around showsTo be fair she has been pretty patient
Hmmm - interesting strategyI think we only ordered at DD because she was sick of being dragged around shows

And for those that don't read German see below, and as somebody else says that already a big hole in the Dusseldorf show and no doubt others will follow, Stuttgart could be the one in 2021 if anybody is itching to spend money.
Bad Waldsee, May 8, 2020 - The Erwin Hymer Group and its brands Bürstner, Carado, Crosscamp, Dethleffs, Eriba, Etrusco, Hymer, Niesmann + Bischoff, Laika, LMC and Sunlight are canceling their participation in all trade fairs planned for 2020 in Europe . In view of the high number of visitors to trade fairs such as the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf and the measures that are necessary due to the risk of infection from the Corona virus, trade fair appearances are not sensible this year.
I can see the basis of your remarks, but unlike the UK the German motorhome factories after some short early holidays are back producing AND delivering albeit in a controlled way, the large motorhome dealers have been receiving new stock, look at mobile.de and click newest ads filter to see how many new ones listed within the last weeks. Not that I am suggesting that all is rosy but neither is it all doom and gloom!I think it goes beyond the risk of Covid, the cost to the group are phenomenal running into hundreds of thousands and I doubt they would have any chance of recouping these costs in view of an uncertain future.
Sadly,I doubt many of these brands will survive and though the group may survive it will be much more condensed.
Careful.. using the words Swift and leak in the same sentence..... ummm .?Yeah, I saw that yesterday in a leak on the Swift website.

It all depends on the market for Motorhomes IMO. We ve all had a big wake up call, the main message of which is avoid crowded places. There are a lot of people who spend serious money on their holidays and who will be emerging in due course contemplating their futures and looking for alternatives to sitting on planes or cruise ships. A self contained MH could be a very attractive option for many of them.Let’s hope so,however, the Dealers receiving stock are for commitments made many months ago the concept of shows is to bring in new business along with showboating with a strong brand and market place both of which will have to face the test of time.
Manufacturing on the scale of the Hymer group will take some financing if they can’t move stock and probably unstubstainable
I don't want to be argumentative but perhaps I did not make my points clear. German motorhome factories are manufacturing. Dealers are receiving deliveries, I accept they will have made these orders even as much as a year ago, but the dealers have to pay for the van before it leaves the factory, and customers are getting handovers so cashflow is still..... flowing. Your inference is that demand has simply gone away overnight and that new orders will not be filtering through and that over the months the flood will not resume and you may well be right, but I am not concurring with that thought. However I would agree that manufacturers use this opportunity to reset their marketing strategies if they believe that for some time they have been exhibiting for no real benefit. Do all these "exhibition orders" really magic from impetuous purchases by the exhibition visitors. An excellent opportunity to test without loss of face. I may be wrong but I am a glass half full kind of a guy, together perhaps we make a pint?Let’s hope so,however, the Dealers receiving stock are for commitments made many months ago the concept of shows is to bring in new business along with showboating with a strong brand and market place both of which will have to face the test of time.

I think that's a fair point Jon, I don't know how our personal circumstances will have changed post lockdown but my guess is "not a lot" so on that basis if we were not committed already we would still be looking for a new motorhome, others may well be in a different position of course but I think there are too many unknown factors to guess and lets face it the English are a very small minority at the Dusseldorf show.It all depends on the market for Motorhomes IMO. Agreed but the cost of a MH from most of the brands in this particular group is significantly more than a Cruise or Flight holiday,

Probably there won’t be able to stick to their 2021 model time table either due to delays in the design departments etc.Yeah, I saw that yesterday in a leak on the Swift website.
