I have just been looking at Flightradar24 and was surprised at the number of flights operating into and out of the Canaries islands today. Mostly Tenerife South and Gran Canaria. Tenerife the arrivals are nose to tail.

When I flew for BEA/BA 40 years ago there were two flights on 25 Dec.

We can see loads flying overhead. Can tell where they're going by their height.

I don't believe Christmas Day has the same appeal to many as it did 40 yrs ago.

Apparently it’s cheaper to fly Christmas Day.
About 6 years ago Mrs CC volunteered me to take her sister and dad up to Heathrow early Christmas morning as they were flying to Australia, cheapest flight’s available.

Oh yes forgot, about 30 miles up the road and her dad realised he had left his wallet indoors alongside with his paperwork 🤬🤬🤬

There were a few motorhomes arrived on site today.

Think Christmas Day has lost some of its importance over recent years to too many people .

Back at the end of the 90's i was surprised at how many flight there were in to Lanzarote on christmas day.

The decline of the family unit.

Why to too many people. Those that want to can do what they used to. If others do something different it's up to them.

Only the wealthy flew back in those days.

Look how easy it is to book a flight these days compared to 40 years ago.

The Canaries holiday model was far different to what it is now. How many people over wintered or had holiday/second homes back then?.

Holidays abroad if you were lucky enough to be able to take them, generally consisted of 2 weeks in the Summer.
