Canals and waterways (1 Viewer)

We are planning a trip following the Kennet and Avon canal and would very much appreciate any tips or suggestions on campsites and pub stops especially those with a view of or actually on the canal. Thanks in anticipation.

We stayed at the Devizes C&CC site that’s on the canal.
Take a bus from just outside to Devizes then walk back down the locks to the site.
3 Magpies pub just next door and The Barge pub a bit of a walk up the canal.
We plan on going back and then taking the bus to Bath.

Also you can stay at The 3 Magpies they have pitches around the back.

Rowbarge pub in Kintbury has good views of the canal and railway.
The railway mostly needs the Flying Scotsman to come by for me though

Devizes is near Cain Hill Locks, Wadworth Brewery, a CAMC site & CC site (& maybe other ‘brands!).

Newbury has the Fullers Lock Stock and Barrel pub sited near locks and river.

Pub and basic camp site right beside the canal at Honeystreet. It's a very quirky pub with an 'interesting' clientele last time I was there just before the lockdown.

Lovely part of the country and canal, if you cycle the only issue is they cut the hawthorn hedge October/November and punctures are common

Rowbarge pub in Kintbury

Wrong pub. It’s Dundas Arms in Kintbury

The Rowbarge is an excellent real ale & food pub but…. It’s by the K&A in Woolhampton

Also, and of less use, the kevenhs live 12min walk from Monkey Marsh Lock or about 20min bike ride from Rowbarge (Well, 35min for mrskevenh but…)

Court Farm Bishops Canning near Devizes, CL on the bank of the canal short walk to TheBridge Inn. Basic but we love it Watch the canal boats go by and negotiate the swing bridge.

Lancaster Canal 42 miles and no locks unless you want to go to Glasson Dock! Not the K and A but lock free!

We were there earlier this year. Second visit. Agree with your comments.
A Very interesting walk up the flight of locks and back.
Apparently there is another pub close to the Barge which has good reviews, can't remember the name.

A Very interesting walk up the flight of locks and back.
Apparently there is another pub close to the Barge which has good reviews, can't remember the name.

The other pub is The Brewery Inn up the lane a bit.
Your a better man than me walking up the locks
Was bad enough walking back from Devizes town to the site

That Barge Inn looks interesting. I've put it on my list of weekend jaunts

Caught the bus to town then walked back downhill past the locks to the site, would not fancy the reverse way

Pub stop....Butt Inn, Aldermaston Wharf. Very cloe to the canal. Best to phone ahead.
