On 4th van so not a total newbie....
On a lot of Aires, there is a scramble to get on certain pitches with views, understandable, but why do people scramble to get on those pitches, then either reverse in (without a rear lounge) or drive on then put exterior covers on blocking the view?
An I missing something?

A good question !
But sometimes it is not all about the view
Regulars may know which bits get soggy and muddy if it rains, some, like me, tries to get near service points/ Others try and keep away from noise.. be it road or folk that look like a potential noise source
There is sometimes the matter of simply fitting on a pitch and / or making an easy exit :-)

Seems the same on campsites the pitches with the views tend to have the moho”s or caravans and even tents facing away from the scenery or with covers over the front windows.
We’ve even pitched sideways if we can to take in the view.

We like a view, but not always possible, we do take the front part of the screens off during the day though if we drive in. I like to see what is going on in the site too so may well revrse into the view, can always see it when sitting outside.

We're very selective,,, we try our very best to figure out where not to park, you know, there's nearly always a spot what'll pizz off all the "residents"...
Once we've identified where that spot is,,, we're on it!

If it’s a legitimate pitch why not.
we found a nice spot at a site in Penccelli in Wales on the camping field
On the second day we came back to find a couple had pitched their tiny 2 person tent about 2 meters in front of our Moho, really close to the tap that everyone on our side of the field was using, we were parked sideways to the hedge next to a large tent. If we had wanted to leave we would have had to drive over them. I did think of turning on the headlights in the middle of the night and starting the engine for a laugh.

I appreciate we all have different priorities for pitching, quiet, TV reception, access etc, but I still don't understand why for example on river Aires, as soon as someone moves from the front people are fighting over the pitch only to reverse in so all they see are other Vans, just the same as any other pitch?
