Afternoon folks 👋

Swmbo and I are trying to plan three or four days away, but most of the available campsites have no EHU. My van has no leisure battery currently. We only have the vans 12v electrics and a small Bluetti AC50B power station. We also have a 35L 12/240v fridge and at a guess the powerstation would run it for about a day. I guess the answer is threefold 1) get a leisure battery installed 2) get a larger powerstation 3) get a solar panel.

Trouble is whilst signed off and no certainty that my employer will continue to keep me on full pay, money is a wee bit of a concern.

Not sure why im writing this as I guess the answer is simply book somewhere with EHU and stop being so stoopid.

I’ve got a battery you can loan
Thats extremely kind of you but I have no existing setup for a leisure battery. Only a 12v outlet at the rear of the van, powered by the battery/alternator from the van.

When are you looking for? I cannot believe all campsites with EHU are full at the moment. Do you use Search for Sites? I have the free version and you can zoom in on the hundreds of sites. Green flower and tents are independent, red or green flag are affiliated to one of the main clubs.
This is just zoomed in on Rhyl area.

You could just buy a 100w folding solar panel and connect it to the starter battery and use that for the fridge, should be fine if white clouds or sunny.
The UK is cold at night so the fridge won't run much.

If you are only looking at a few days, consider a good cool box.
Friends and I have experimented with fridge options over the past couple of decades. And ended up using cool boxes. We will freeze 2ltr water bottles to use as freezer blocks. And freeze down anything else we can, such as bolognaise sauces/curry/stew etc. Also we freeze 1pt milk cartons, keeping just one unfrozen for the first day. 1pt, so you can just take out one to defrost at a time.
We would travel to UK summer festivals on the Thursday and on the Sunday we still have lumps of ice floating in the water bottles. (An ice cold drink to help the hangover whilst packing away camp!)

You can also buy bags of ice from supermarkets if you need to top up the cold.

You do need a good cool box. Not one of the crappy injection moulded ones with no insulation in.
Also needs to be a reasonable size, to put a lot of 'cool' in. We tend to put 4-5 people's worth of food in the one box. More efficient that way.
I have a ~50ltr Coleman one. Friend has an Igloo. (The igloo one is a better form factor and easier to load in the car, so we use that mostly.)
You are looking at about £120. Far cheaper than batteries/solar.

macp , I'm in Stockport, near J1 M60.

I have a 3-way absorption coolbox fridge that will run off campingaz.

Welcome to borrow it?

Have (empty) cylinders as well.

You would need to get a refill for the gaz, and a regulator plus hose.

Like this one.
