Sil would like to go camping in the Portofino area Italy, after trawling the area I can't find anything suitable for my 30' RV, anybody know any sites?

Hi @olley i guess with no one replying that there is nothing suitable? I’m wanting to visit Portofino too but struggling to find any campsites, did you or have you found anything suitable?

Thanks Dave

Hi Dave no never did find anything, gave up and intend to book the Venice area next year, now in Portugal.

We stayed here in Venice. campingfusina.it
Our RV went on site no problem.
Great “seaside” pitches.
Good restaurant and bar on site.
Short stroll to the ferry to get to other areas of Venice.
You can get a bargain ticket for the passenger ferries if you book through the campsite.

Like you, I looked for a site near to Portofino. Didn't find one that I liked.

When we had the caravan, we stayed at a site further down the Italian Riviera in Sestri Levente. Site was called Camping Mare Monti. It was OK, without being special, but the access to the entrance and the entrance itself were very testing for a tugger. A 30' moho could just about do it, if no one was parked on the bend, but it would be challenging. Google Streetview for the entrance!

We drove into Portofino. It is a lovely town, albeit expensive, pretentious and, in the vernacular, up its own ar$e. Still, it is worth visiting. However, parking for a car is a nightmare; a moho, impossible. If you have scooters or bikes, you'll be fine, but a thirty footer would be cold-sweat-inducing on those twisty coast roads!

Resurrecting this thread if that’s ok

We are currently in Colmar and heading to Garda in the next day or so.

Val has wanted to go to Portofino for ages so has anyone found any sites to stay at near enough to cycle to or get a taxi/bus into Portofino.

I’ve done a search and come up with this one, has anyone been or can recommend anywhere else a bit nearer bearing in mind we’re in a 8.8mtr A Class

thanks Al 👍

Portafino should not be missed, very rarely mentioned on here but we have been a few times, what we did is get a campsite further down the coast where there was a train station.
Can't think what the camp was called ,maybe the one mentioned, anyway get a train to here then a boat to portafino, it truly is magical as you come into the harbour I will find a photo of I can.
I know this is a bit vague but if you need anymore info I will look it up.

hi that’s great and thanks for the info

it’s our very first time in Italy in the moho so any more info would really be helpful

cheers

Al

I'm afraid that's the best I can find at the moment, but it truly is the best way of visiting portafino, the ambience of the place as you sail in is magical, the campsite we found was billed as the best in Italy to visit portafino, can't remember where we found it but it was behind big brick walls and when new vans came everyone had to move to let them in. Brilliant fun it was.

We used this place to visit Portofino, but think you'd struggle to park an RV there. You can walk to Portofino in about 45 minutes from the stopover.
We wouldn't go back however.
Overhyped and over commercialised. There are far more beautiful and less pretentious towns along the Italian Ligurian and Tuscan coast imo!

Chaser is spot on with his advice. We stayed on a Acsi site in Sestri Levante. Not ideal as it was a long walk to the train station. But I think there is a sosta in the town. The train trip took us past other places where I spotted motorhomes parked. The town where you get off for Portofino also has a bus outside that takes you there. But as Chaser says boat probably nicer.
Portofino isn't as expensive as others suggest but when we went it was between lock downs and Italy was unusually quiet.
The train line I mentioned also travels south to the Cinque Terra. I found that much better than Portofino. I'll attach links to my blogg that covers that part of Italy.

We stayed in Margarita on an Aire in the town with 4 RV’s & took the bus into Portofino & a water taxi out. (2017)
It’s basically a car park at the top of the town with no facilities but a lady came around with her ticket machine, collected some money & gave us a ticket I seem to recall we stayed there 2/3 days.
The only downside for us was getting out as there was a market on the Saturday starting at 06.00hrs, which they closed the roads for at about 05.30, so it was a bit of an early start.

The boat trip in made it for us, and agree with the others that it's not really that much different than lots of towns along the coast, but the trip between the yachts and the view on the way in is something you don't get at the other places.
When we went we hadn't got all the internet gizmos we have now and we were only going on what we had read somewhere, and the campsite came up on that, but now with p4n and can see the parkup in the town that is obviously a better way of doing it.
But I wouldn't miss it if we ever had the chance again.

thanks for the info everyone 👍

has anyone any recommendations for Lake Maggiore which is in our route tomorrow

cheers

Allan

We stayed at Baveno on an Acsi site (sorry can’t remember the name) but it’s on the book. Great little town, with trains to Milan and ferries across the lake.

Some good sites around maggiore but I wouldn't want to miss lake Isseo if I was you. Good Acsi site, camping del sole just 15 minute walk into Isseo town. Train runs along lake good trips out. Large island in middle of the lake with beautiful boat trips..

We stayed on a site in Rapallo which had a couple of Morellos on different pitches - it was a bit noisy being next to the toll booth but was handy for the town had a nice pool and only a 7k electric bike ride from Portofino

Hi
We went there in June. Stayed at Val Diego at Diva Marina (think that's correct spelling).
The site runs a free minibus to the train station hourly all day and it meets the trains easily. There is also a boat to Portafino on certain days.
Aldo you can take the train to the 5 villages ( Cinqe Terra ). Get tge train to the nearest and then boat one way between them and train back or donit the other way round.

Well we arrived at Lake Maggiore in the torrential rain which is forcast all week according to the site reception 😢
We’re on Camping Campagna right on the lakeside, my front wheels are less than 8 mtrs from the lake so a premium spot i’d say.

Looks to be a nice little bar restaurant so that’s where we’re headed later on 🍻👍

By the way yesterday’s stop in Switzerland was breathtaking

Spain is beckoning us tbh as we don’t want to be in Italy for our first time when it’s slashing it down so heading that way tomorrow

Thanks for all your recommendations btw, much appreciated 👍👍
