Staying for 3 nights soon - any suggestions of good places to visit and eat? We've had a look on TripAdvisor, and like the sound of the Computing Science Museum....we prefer to use buses or walk.

Hi.
R A F Duxford Museum. Newmarket Horse racing museum park nup near a gallop on the Bury st edmunds road out and watch while having a snack. Can you still hire a Punt ? In the 50's you could and i did,see it all then at a leisurely pace..

We learned much from a walking tour, especially if the guide has a sense of humour, then we decided what to visit after.

American War Memorial, very moving

If you fancy a change from walking or buses then you can try the Escooters, or e bikes that are all over the place to rent via an app. We keep meaning to pop up and try the escooters as they look fun.

Hi.
" Re Gallops....Newmarket "
Go out of N/Market on the " OLD Bury st.Edmunds road " Go by some set back properties, the road forks right and starts to climb a little. Open heath on your left, the horses used to come up from the properties, cross the road and set off in pairs................... Loved it.

The garden centre just a short walk to the left of the exit to the site used to do fantastic all day breakfasts. Did close for lockdown but should have reopened by now. This is one of the reasons the Cambridge site is a “must for us” in the area. Also excellent cycling from site and good and convenient bus service.

Number 7 bus runs 05 and 35 mins past the hour into Cambridge just a 5 min walk from the site. Lots to see in the city and spoilt for choice for eating out.

Wow, thank you all so much. Rather excited now!

A walk along the backs, punt to Grantchester where there are nice pubs. Ely is a nice day trip.

To follow-up, we went on the punt trip, breakfast in the Sunflower Cafe at Scotsdale's and went to the Computer Museum - featuring not only computers but all those nostalgic games such as Binatone Pong, PAC Man etc. We used buses/walking only. Cambridge C&C site is very good, all crew extremely helpful and facilities are really clean.

Absolutely loved all of it, we've done a fair bit of wandering around the town too, diving around the little streets to get away from the busy shops and crowds.

Thank you so much for the recommendations! We've had a great time so far!

What is the Eagle pub famous for?

It was originally opened as a coaching house in 1667 as the 'Eagle and Child' , and is now famous for it's connection to World War II USAF and RAF pilots, and the discovery of DNA.
