I just in the throws of replacing the cam belt on my motorhome it is 5 years old. Most people replace the water pump at the same time, i am led to believe this is the right thing to do. Having read an article in the Feb issue (2020) of the MMM magazine which states that there is no need to replace the water pump unless there is damage or a leak to it. The article suggests that the water pump should probably last the life of the engine. I am totally confused.
Any thoughts on this

The Mechanics/Garages I asked were saying they would change the water pump as well as it would cost the same labour again to replace it if it failed.
One Fiat Garage said belt didnt need changing until 7 years but I checked with Fiat themselves and they said 5 years.

The Fiat Professional garage I used were just going to replace the belts but double checked with Fiat. Fiat said the full kit, including tensioner, pump and pulleys should all be replaced at 5 years regardless of mileage.
The Genuine Fiat kit was £360 plus vat.

I wouldn't be going back there again.

Or there...
Always fit a full kit and being fiat 'professional'(?) they should know that.
