This is a bit of a follow on from cliffanger and our experience of the blasted Gottard tunnel yesterday. I dont want to go up over the Gottard pass.

We are on an organised tour of Italy and are doing another of Croatia next year. We can join the tour in Lake Garda. We belong to Brittany Ferries Club Voyage so think we’d rather cross from Poole or Portsmouth and go through France next time rather than join the tour at Dover and do this tedious drive through Belgium Germany and Switzerland to Lake Garda. Yes we know tours are much more expensive than doing it on our own but we find them fun for a change before anyone criticises us for wasting our money:giggle:

Any suggestions please, we aren’t bothered about cost! Happy to pay tolls. Thanks.

We went from Portsmouth to the lakes this year carolyn
Took the overnight ferry to Caen and drove down to Reuilly on day one. Nice camping car park there on the edge of the village.
Day two was a stop in Pommiers. Nice privately owned site
Day three was down to Le Bourget by the lake
Day four was through the Frejus tunnel into Italy and a stop at Viverone.
We then went to lake Maggorie.

I think the longest drive was day one, but everything else was no more than 3 or 4 hour driving. We mostly used the tolls.
All in all a very enjoyable trip down to the lakes.
