It has been asked a few times on here - so for those interested, I received my new licence with C1 category back from the DVLA today - exactly 3 weeks from posting! I had no medical conditions and it was my second renewal from turning 70. Happy with that turnaround!

Glad you have no medical conditions and glad you got your C1 quickly.
Envious ? Only a lot ☹️

Yes, we are also jealous... I saw my consultant today who tells me all is well at the moment, he had a questionnaire regarding my health which he sent back last week in April....... after continual calls, they say they haven't heard anything........ my license expires next week, I applied early Feb and this palaver I have to go thro every year as they say they can't do more than 12 months...... Bar stewards

What worries me is even if next time I forgo my C1 they'll probably still put my application through the medical dept and take ages 🤷‍♀️

My sympathy is with you!

What on earth can a normal bloke do about it ????? These Bar Stewards hide behind the common phrases that we know are a load of bollocks.

It's in the interest of safety on the roads.......

I can show you plenty of bloody taxi drivers that are dangerous.
I can show you plenty of 80+ drivers are an accident waiting to happen

and I could go on....... just really p.....d off because it's stopping my holiday.

If they refuse my C1 on medical grounds I will want to know why when the medics who see me think I'm fit, but would likely accept that, it's the ridiculous drawn out time to get a decision I get upset about.
I'll just down plate and be done so long as they give me a standard car license :mad::mad:

It's been renewed !
Strangely odd feeling - I'm a bit non-plussed even though I should be pleased 🤷‍♀️

For a standard B licence you apply online & just tick the "medically ok" box

We are fortunate here in Spain that we are required to have a medical for a B licence every 10 years under 70 / if C1 is held renewal is every 5 years, At 70 it drops to 5 years for B & 3 Years for C1.
BUT all this is done at private medical centres that usually only deal in this stuff ,hgv,+ gun & shotgun medicals for licences. Everything is done in house. usually eye test, blood pressure .hand/eye coordination via onscreen game . form filled in online, new photo taken ,pay & receive a 90 day temporary 'licence' until new arrives in post.Works very well

That does sound efficient. I think most of us would rather pay for something similar that we knew was going to work well and in a timely manner. It’s often the huge delays even after the tests have been done that are the problem.

It’s such a piecemeal system. Some bits you pay for, some bits have to be NHS and then the DVLA plus heaven forbid their medical team that meets infrequently.

I'd like to think you maybe right, but as I have already declared medical conditions and they've clearly been suspicious of my health, I can't imagine they will just accept such an application - they'll assume things have deteriorated to the point they'll insist on extra medical information.
I hope I'm wrong 🤷‍♀️👍
