Buying used LHD small motorhome

Hi folks - the hubby and I planning a career break next year and to spend 6 months around France, Portugal, Spain, Germany. I can't see similar queries so forgive if there are, but recommend it is best to buy from sparse offerings in UK, or go abroad to purchase and deal with headache of getting registered? My husband is French so not sure if this helps even though resident in UK. I understand Germany offers best value. Tips would be most welcome. TIA

Thanks Paul. I had already been looking through that site which is decent - just not sure if it is a headache getting it registered in UK, if I have to. If I don't, would it not affect my insurance?
