Hi all. Joined here a year or 2 ago but just became a paid up member. I am hoping to get a little advice about purchasing a motorhome. I currently have a caravan and a Mazda Bongo. After years of caravanning we have decided to sell and buy a motorhome. I’m keeping the Bongo as my car and a weekend day van as I have a 15ft canoe that needs transporting. I can see prices have shot up but I’m still hoping to get a reasonably priced ,dry, sound motorhome. What I am noticing is that a lot of second hand MH’s are being bought up and sold on by a lot of those ‘wanted – caravans and campers-we pay cash’ people and sold on at a mark-up. All my previous buys have been with the actual users of the vehicles. Is it common nowadays to deal with these people? I would always prefer to deal with real owners/users but they are few and far between at the moment.

I’m looking for a MH under 6m, under 3500kgs with the possibility to sleep 3 people (but mostly just the two of us. I have a budget of 20k, so not massive. Originally I wanted a Hymer b544 but any in my price bracket show many instances of corrosion on the past MOT’s. I have a found a few Elddis Autoquest 100’s from the early 2000’s which have the layout I like but they are all being sold by the ‘we pay cash’ brigade above. Would you all feel happy enough buying from them? Sorry, if these questions seem daft. It’s a big purchase. Based on experience, I have reasonable confidence in giving the motorhomes a once over and have a couple of decent damp meters. I alos know to carry out HPI checks on vehicles I buy. But I am a bit nervous about being scammed. Any advice appreciated.

You can search by seller type (private/dealer) on Autotrader.

Good luck

You could always try the classifieds here on the forum first.

Hoyles of denholme springs to mind near me,

Others will be out there.....
