Good morning all. This is my first posting,
Thanks everyone for all the great advice . There is such a lot to take in and it does seem a bit daunting.
We have never had a caravan or motorhome but have decided to go in at the deep end and buy a new one ( I retire in October so don't even buy green bananas ) as it will probably be the only one we buy.
We have travelled a lot in Europe by car, staying in B&B etc , but always thought of a motorhome would be better.
We quite like the Burstner Motor home range . Would you say it was a good buy .
Stay Safe

The only point to watch is payload. IIRC Burstner are well known for being mean with payload.

We bought a new Burstner and are very pleased with it. We did 20k in the two years before Lockdown, no problems apart from a small section of floor covering lifting due to the 'green eco friendly' glue they used at the time (2016 - 2018).

We bought our 2nd hand Burstner last November. We’ve tinkered with her adding a few bits and are so excited to getting out there and down to Somerset on the 12th.

We are waiting our new Bürstner being built too! It’s out 3rd van and we’re super excited as so roomy and we shall have it for a long time. Previous and current van all brand new and whilst it seems huge sums to outlay we’ve had the assurance of them being under warranty etc. We started T6, then bigger Adria twin and we’ve adapted as now 5 th year of the lifestyle like ducks to water 🦆. Lots of learning, setting routine but best advise i can offer is that impulse buys can often lead to repurchases. So buy as you want something and not just because you think you ‘might’ need it. For me I’d say a really good mattress and or topper is the first thin and a decent kettle. After several camping kettles that don’t last and that are not cheap ... for what they are..... a posh named stove top one eventually made it to the van.
Enjoy the forum, take the tips and the humour but so ignore mild ignorance a few can bring (they know best)

most of all have a wonderful retirement and adventures

Just bought a Burstner ourselves. No previous experience either but on looking round we got the feel that Burstner were higher up the the quality pecking order as well as being reasonably priced. It is very confusing out there as there are so many makes and models. Our approach was:

1. To settle on a layout - we wanted a permanent bed which we could get up/go to bed at different times and get in and out of without disturbing each other as we tend to have different sleeping habits so for us it was singles or island. Our layout gives is flexibility of both singles or kingsize. also wanted a big garage for bikes/scooter.

2. Then we decided on Burstner as a make and started looking. We bought one (new) straight off the forecourt as we didn't want to wait an age for delivery.

3. Used or New.

Same layout as we’ve ordered but the rear bed will likely be flexed for us mostly having the middle sections in and when little tourers on board can make to single and we take the electric drip down double over diner. We’ve also opted for 5 th seat and seat belt for such occasions of little people tagging along 😊 the build quality is fantastic and value for money. Personally feel the traditional brands people in the U.K. know dont come up to this not so well known name.

We were much the same touring Europe.
Our ideal holiday is still to tour Europe, although now the B&B is loads cheaper and far more convenient.
Your first decision is the layout. and the sleeping arrangement. My wife insisted on a made up bed so the shortest Burstner we could find was just under 7 metres. Singles or double but not a transvers bed -- climbing over each other in the night is not an option for us.
Just for starters --- Enjoy

We've had a 2015 Burstner T660 for the last 5 years. A few niggles mainly with the internal equipment (Dometic). But a biggy when the second hab check revealed a leaking awning fixing which caused a 70% damp reading around the doorframe!!! Sorted by the dealer. It does everything we need with a fixed French bed at 6.8 meters. No problem with exiting the bed for either of us a wifey is shorter than I am! An under bed space larger than most french bed models so we can get a couple of folding small wheel electric bikes in. Just the two of us and just under 3500kg fully loaded. But we upgraded to 3850 just in case. If we were looking for another one (aren't we all) then I would consider Burstner again (Ixeo 690G) or Carthago. Twin beds this time. Layout is important as others have said. For us it's where do our shoes/boots go and also coats. As well as a spinning wheel. Our T660 fulfills all these requirements. Or maybe we have adapted to fit what the van offers! This was our second van. Good luck in choosing. Its a big investment.

We looked at another Adria but for 5/6 berth the tiny kitchen and poor work space for plates for the number of people was terrible. The Bruster having the spin out extra worktops genius and saves stretching to the dining table and little hands getting burnt..

Hello Jud, I would not buy a new motorhome without renting first. We rented twice then bought a new van, three years later we still changed it. Good luck with morothoming, its great fun.

I brought my first van however with no rental, I just knew I wanted to do it. Horses for courses I guess. You know from your discussions and research if this is something you simply wanted to do. I once read most people settle in their 3 Rd van.... but again if you have no plans to swap van then decisions made 😊

I’ve traded up from small van to larger panel van and now motor home... I’ve not lost a bean

Rental is expensive and I'm not sure you really would get a good idea unless you had the same model. In fact a poor rental could put you off vans themselves.

As long as you have a good understanding of what camping/travelling holidays are like. We've bought our first MH with out trying any out. However I think we have a good idea having done camping hols many times Including across Europe) and hired a RV in California (although I am more than aware that will be a totally different experience to a UK van and Europe travelling!). Also, we've done a lot of Canal boat holidays which do have quite a bit in common, living accommodation wise.

Bought a Iexo 736 A class in 2019, I would imagine the latest auto box to be an improvement on ours. If you are buying new it might be worth seeing if you can get it supplied with anything other than Michelin Agilis camping tyres. The ride is incredibly hard in so much as our van is literately shaking itself to pieces on anything but smooth roads. The finish of the build quality could have been better as lots of nightly problems and with the dealer a long way away need to be taken into account. We have covered around 10,000 miles on the Fiat heavy chassis rated at 4000 kg. Whilst there is a good size garage under the rear bed, car should be taken about loading as it is a long way behind the rear axle. Being winterised the spaces under the front settees are taken up by the heater one side and the water tank the other. The oven is very small and the three ring burner we find a bit tight for more than two pans at a time. We had front parking sensors fitted as it was our first A class as judging the distance in front when parking we found some getting used to. It came with a rear camera.whilst the van is ok would I buy Burstner again, I dont think so. But everyone to their own. Ours was delivered to our house as there was a delay in registering it, we found poorly repaired accident damage to the front. The dealers denied all knowledge of it and Burstner confirmed that if it had been done at the factory it would have been repaired to leave no trace. The dealer took three weeks to repair it. So be aware.

On our second new and third Burstner now. Rather than a long spiel here on the open forum PM me and I will give you our opinion. In short... reasonable build quality... not without its issues though as a brand. Buy again, not sure, might look elsewhere.....

They are great vans. High quality and good finishes. Sadly we’ve now sold ours but it was lovely while it lasted.

Really? I have a 1.1t payload on mine. :giggle:
Anyway, Burstner motorhomes are fantastic! I absolutely love mine. Build quality is superb. Alde heating, double floor, fully winterised, huge garage, two huge double beds etc...

We've got a14 years old burstner and everything has been fine in the 5 years we've owned it
Pah, only 14?! A mere young'un! Ours is over 20 years old, built like a tank and we bloody love it! I do echo others that have said to rent before you buy though. It may seem expensive, but if it saves you from buying a layout that doesn't work for you, you'll have saved thousands....literally.

We have a Burstner Brevio, we down sized from a Hymer tag axle, this van suited us, fixed bed at back, lots of storage underneath the bed. Also bags of payload. We added solar panel, extra leisure battery and refillable gas system.

build quality is ok - I’m my opinion not as good as the Hymer,
Overall we are happy with our choice

Not on a 3500kg van I assume.

We rented first and found it helpful.
After 1 night we didn’t like the shower which got the entire bathroom soaking wet.
After 2 nights we decided that French beds were a non-starter........
After 3 nights the dinette layout drove us loopy
Overall, we loved the experience, freedom and flexibility, the lifestyle was for us. The dog was pretty cool about it too.
We own an older Burstner (12 yrs) so comments on the marque are not relevant to you buying from new
Great ideas and experience on here which should help you decide on layout and (equally importantly) extras
Good luck and happy motoring
