When the lockdown ceases and we want to get away it would be great to stock up the moho with food so as not to have to visit any shops etc and be able to get to the great outdoors again in relative safety.

Britstop pub car parks would be ideal but does that seem right when the pubs themselves will be shut? Seems like taking advantage. What do others think? Phone ahead maybe?

No.

If I owned the pub I wouldn’t want anybody parking in the car park, let alone overnighting.

Pubs are meant to be shut, and any activity in the car park might attract unwanted attention from police and curtain twitchers.

I think you'll find its called trespass!

Why not just phone beforehand. Best of both worlds?

Dependant upon the signs that are there as to whether it is a trespass or not in my view owing to them having an open invite in Britspots.
Even if it were trespass, short of taking you to civil court (highly unlikely) the worst that is likely to happen is them asking you to leave.
I wouldnt do it without asking first though. Sort of morally wrong.

I imagine that the freedom to travel for leisure by m/h, caravan etc. and the opening of pubs will occur at the same time. It seems illogical that you'd be allowed to travel for leisure but pubs (and hotels, restos?) will have to stay shut, and vice-versa, i.e. pubs (hotels, restos?) can open but no-one can travel. (Unless of course for those pubaholics who can walk to the pub down the road).

Our local pub has asked brit stops to remove them due to vans just turning up even on occasion caught with hose connected to the hot tap in the toilets and a good few not even having the courtesy to introduce them selves or spend any money in the pub.
So these people are the reason our local have stopped overnights.☹️

Isn't the idea for the pub they let you park up in return for some business in the bar or dining room?

No food & drink = no parking IMHO
nope - that's not how Britstops works although we always do spend money in the pub

Some people just have no understanding, I could never use a Britstop without giving something back over the bar
I agree, but its not necessary necessary.

So, what I actually think is phone ahead is the only option and expect to be told no as would be their right. There will stilll be the garden centres and farm shops etc

Speaking as someone who works in pub management I would not allow anyone to park on my pub car park until we are open.

Firstly it is the managers home. He lives in the flat above the pub. Would you want a stranger (who may or may not be carrying covid) parking on your driveway at this time? He is isolating there with his family, who use the car park and garden alongside as part of their living space.

Secondly it would doubtless create unwanted attention from the police if motorhomes were parked there and people were coming and going.

Thirdly the locals who live in the village wouldn't thank me for inviting outsiders into the village when we should be staying home.

The car park of the pub I work at is shut (locked up and secured) and will stay that way until we are open for business.

Others in the industry may take a different approach, so by all means ring ahead and ask. But I doubt you'd get a different response.

And don't just turn up. You will probably be moved on as soon as your noticed by the pub operators. We have had to move on people who came to the pub two days after lockdown started, with their own packed lunches, and sat in our pub garden to eat them! I couldn't believe they thought that was okay!

Like you I am feeling the urge to get out. But I can't see pubs opening. I think they will, sadly, be one of the very last things to return to normal. Until then we might have to make do with the campsites that manage to open (if they even allow that) because they have the space to provide proper social distancing.

Fair summary I think

Wrong. There is no requirement to purchase anything from any establishment in the Brit Stops community. It's your choice

There are still a lot of takers about makes you wonder what ever next .
I love to pull up in a pub car park and have a nice meal and a couple of pints just the job . No driving and settle down for the night
what’s the matter with these people who think the world and it wife own them a free ride
happy days

Rather mean spirited though not to buy a drink at least, don't you think? I'm sure if everyone had that attitude most pubs would cancel any participation and save car parking space for paying guests. And wouldn't that rather spoil the fun for all us happy campers?

I like that but there is absolutely no requirement to anyone using Brit Stops to feel obliged to buy anything.
I don't feel that I'm getting a free ride at all. I pay my subs for the book so how is that a free ride? I won't use it this year but I still bought it.
Some pubs only serve alcohol and I may or may not drink that night but I like the system where I'm not obliged to and that's exactly what Brit Stops is.

Wgy is it mean spirited? Not all stops are pubs you know.
The principal behind Brit Stops is that you're not obliged to buy anything.
Have you stopped at Brit Stops stops?

It is mean spirited because you might pay for a book but what's the pub getting? Like I said, if everyone had that attitude there would be no pubs in your book.

Also I don't think I've ever been in a pub that "only serves alcohol".

I certainly have. Quite a few. Not all pubs sell food you know. Or are you suggesting I should buy peanuts, crisps etc.
If everyone had that attitude they may well stop allowing but that's not the case.
You are entitled to your opinion but that's not the principle that Brit Stops is founded on.
You can find stopovers on the net quite easily without buying the book.
I went to one pub and I was the first member to go and they'd been in the book for 3 years.

Oh dear oh dear thought some body would take the bait lets all have a free ride you will be putting forward the
argument that we should not pay for campsites . Let face it it’s a facility after all said and done that has to be maintained . I expect Brits stop charge for an entry in the book
happy days

Orange juice, j20, coke, lemonade, blackcurrant, ginger beer, appletizer.

I'm aware that not all stops are pubs. But pubs wouldn't be in them if they made nothing from it.

IMO, as someone who relies on a pub for their living, parking for free and not buying anything is a little cheeky and not in the spirit of things. Agree or not I think that's a reasonable viewpoint and you're not going to change it. So I'll leave it there.

Ah you're just a troll

Oh dear a thought comes to mind that there are people who can not see the wood for the trees
happy days

Tbf, I've never been to any Brit Stops and not bought something but the basis of it is, you are NOT OBLIGED to buy anything.
Also pretty difficult to buy from a vineyard .
I think you're being a little pedantic regarding the soft drink . You know what I mean
