Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
Before we bought our old motorhome, someone had obviously done the heat gun treatment on the bumper & it looked terrible.
It didn't matter which product I used on it, there was no way the black was coming back properly.
So, I've bitten the bullet & bought rattle can self-priming textured bumper paint & the results shown are the test patch, that's a first coat, but I'm out of masking tape, so that'll be tomorrows work.

The upshot of this is, please, please, pretty please with a cherry on top, NEVER heat treat plastics on your motorhome, it's the kiss of death.
As of today...

Shown below was how it looked despite my very best efforts.

My transit bumpers looked like yours in the photo and I removed number plate and used the heat gun!Came up like new and that was about 3 or 4 years ago!I found that you need to keep heat gone going in direction of heat.I also about once a year use a bumper and trim gel.Looks good for a 20 year old!

That's coming on great Robert, I had never heard of the hot air gun treatment before, but the bumper paint should last a lot longer.
Tel Hazel about that Frugaldom place I mentioned to Wildbill, they have Horses (y) :giggle:, Wood Sculptures & Crafts, I think, it looks like a great place to visit (Campra MH Aire also)

Amy Winehouse sang a very good song “ Back to Black” , not sure that she had us motorhomers and our bumpers in mind though. Title track on an album in fact.

Another recommendation for Owatrol, they do a £5 sample tin on their site which is plenty for a few bumpers.

But looking at your before pics I think they were too far gone so painting was probably the best route in your case.

There you go Les, it looks tidy, but never lasts & is a devil to put right again. My efforts are last ditch before a brand-new bumper.

I use this stuff and seems to work well and last well. But ive not used it on anything as faded as ambulancekidd bumper, which looks great now anyway 👍🏻

Everything has gone up, I thought you may have found a cheaper price.

Hi

I used Owatrol a few years ago. Did all the prep exactly how they said. Very time consuming and not easy to apply on large areas. However, eventually finished and all looked 'quite' good, but after 18 months started to flake and discolour. Right game to remove. I now use Forever Black, easy to apply as long as weather is cool and dry. Last application about 18 months ago and still looks good.

Gtechniq... This stuff really worked for my 2006 Bessaccar's tired black trims, rubbers and handles, although I don't have a large surface area such as a bumper.

It did a very good job of re blacking even though the stuff itself is colourless

Prepare and clean as instructed, strange stuff to work with, a little goes a long way.
Supposed to use Nanno Tecnology ... ha ha whatever that is!

I had to pinch some extra application pads ... the wife's eye make up untreated remover pads.
Easily outlasts other treatments, maybe 9 months, fiddly cleaning and application but worth it.
