many many years! since I was a kid
Following the shameful way that the RAC abandoned me for 8 3/4 hours on the hottest day ever on record, putting me in hospital, I am looking for recommendations for breakdown cover for the motorhome

I am with Comfort insurance and use their add on European cover (£65)..
5 t and 8mtr. Had a recent call out to the van over "petrolgate" :whistle2: no issues...
Dedicated AA van. No one ever mentioned the van size.

I'm also with comfort's break down, 6 tonne 8.3 Mtrs, i've been recovered twice, once in the UK after an accident and once in France, no real issues with the service, probably the best £65 I ever spent they also paid £500 towards my hotel bill whilst the van was repaired in France.

And me too… 9.25m and 7.3T and with Comfort.

Been recovered twice in the UK since May.. all fixed now 🤞

I insured with green flag / mayday through CAMC
Went for personal cover £137

The smart car broke down 300m from the house, no problem I'm covered
First call at 12:22
Told they'll be here by 14:30
Nope
Call at 14:39
Apologies , either I'll call you or our agent will call in the next 3 minutes
It's now 15:12 no call

I once spent 6 hours waiting for an RAC agent to pick up me and my motorcycle, I was less then half a mile from the agents yard and watched countless of their trucks passing by empty i only needed to get home, less then 5 miles away, a person came out of their house having seen me there so long and brought me out a sandwich, i did get a free year out of the RAC as an apology though.

A lot of breakdown policies have a 3.2 metre height limit so worth reading the small print,

I get it with my insurance. I think its currently through AXA.

My thought process is the insurance company knows how long, high and how much it weighs and if they do not get me the right cover ass part of their offer I will take it up with them.

John, several enquiries re Breakdown Insurance, saw us not meeting their "vehicle requirements", ie, too long, too high, too heavy, too old, or a combination of those.
We went with SAGA's European offerings when renewing our annual insurance, which covered the lot. They use the RAC's Commercial Vehicle Recovery Service, so fingers crossed they'll know what they are doing.

Good luck with your research. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Hi Jock, it was the RAC commercial vehicle recovery that was the problem. The man in an orange T5 van rocked up quickly enough. The job was then handed to the inept commercial department who outsource such recovery work

Oh dear.
I can't see haulage firms though putting up with crap service from the RAC's Commercial Recovery. :whatthe:

Cheers,

Jock. :)
