I admit it .. the MP3 was a mistake..
Not fast enough
Not big enough tank
And after years of riding 'normal' bikes I cannot get comfy with the riding position

I still need something smaller and lighter, so went to Wheels in Peterborough today to check out a few options
Come away with a year old CB500 X with full luggage

317155

So if you know anyone who fancies a Piaggio MP3 500 Sport LC with 350 miles on it, for £1600 off ( looking for£7300 ) send them my way

I needed something that would easily do 150 between fills, could cruise at 80 with out effort, was less than 200kg wet and I could flat foot

It is DEF not sporty with only 47Bh on tap but it is fairly long legged and should romp the 3 - 400 miles a day planned ( or at a push 750 miles as I did last year due to a logistics cock up ! )

i've passed your message around John re bike for sale. Don't know if it will help .. :)

You could Rally Raid that up nicely!

When I first read your opening post I thought it said you'd bought a Honda CX 500...:)

Lovely bike, anything is lighter but is it smaller? LOL. Are you going to the ABR meet at Ragley Hall?

Are you sure you want to leave the comfort of a nice camper for a bike and a tent?

Cheers GPW..
I would not call it lovely but it IS a means to an end :) Yup, seat height f only 31" and I can flat foot it, so a good inch lower !

Sadly gonna have to miss ABR this year... I do not get the X until Tuesday.... and I am NOT going on an MP3 that for sure :-)

Re tent / camper..
Some times its kinda the other way round as I do miss proper camping.. And I hate with a passion doing European bike meets in the motorhome, as it just feels so wrong

I guess it will. I did Ramsgate to Montelimar in a day on a 350 Norton (25-ish bhp?) Two up in 1966. I was younger then :D .

I've sat on the CB500 with the panniers etc at the NEC bike shows and thought they were a far better package than the contrived 'adv' bikes like the giant and expensive BMW and the Africa twin etc. Far simpler to have a solid 500 twin and give it a decent luggage package.

I've been touring on my SYM 300, even off-road at some campsites up rocky slopes and never felt the need for a 'proper' adv bike :). Like cars I think the key is where you ride it rather than how much Touratech you managed to get fleeced for LOL.

I think the CB500 is a bit of a touring gem as you'll find out as you use it!

It was Brian ( hilldweller ) who showed me the on one of the trips to Garda a few years ago
I love the bmw 12's.... but I am a danger to myself as soon as I stop and try to move it around.. I can do it, but it just does not feell safe any more

My Sym Crox 125 does an indicated 65 two up, carries all our shopping and I love it.. Third Sym I have had and each has been a joy to own.
The Crox is a faux of road thing and comes with nobbly tyres !
