Bailey Advance 640

About 5years
I thought with the amount of Bailey`s on the road there would be more threads here.
We love our wee van. Its not fancy or looks particularly good but it is ideal for us. Shorter and narrower than our last van, Approach Autograph 750, but perfect layout and has never missed a beat for anything. Cheap (£34750 1100miles, on the scale of Moho`s) extremely practical and fun.
It doesnt have the latest gadgets and buttons, but build quality beats many of the other vans £1000`s more we looked at prior to buying this 1.
I know Bailey are not the end of and be all but I wouldnt change for anything else I have seen so far.
Everyone has there own needs and expectations from there van, looks, build quality, endurance, cost, gadgets, layout and so on, but this wee van has served us well in a year. Put 7000 miles on since 01.04.19 and other than the cost of things I changed or added out of just wanting to, it has cost me an MOT and service.
Bailey Approach Advance `66` reg, 8100 on the clock and shines like a new pin.

I think you have answered your question really, all of us can only hope that any van regardless of cost, make, or country of manufacture can expect is that 1. it suits us,2. that its reliable,3. and more importantly its ready at a turn of a key to take us anywhere we want to go.
As any salesman will confirm "The higher the cost, the higher the customer expectation"leading to more dissatisfaction with the least problems/
Have fun in your van wherever it may take you, thats what its all about, nothing else should really matter.

Exactly right. Could not have put it better myself. We bought it privately and with associated worries if something goes wrong. Did my research prior to buying and it hasnt. Good lady has a host of events and dates penciled in for this year and we are looking forward to it. Used it all winter, albeit drained down and just fill the kettle. As long as the fridge and freezer at home are full my boys are happy, I keep a clean pair of skiddies in the van and we are off. Cheers

I have to agree with TinaL's (Les's) opinion. If there were a multitude of posts on this forum for that manufacturer you could bet your bottom dollar you'd be more than disappointed. Enjoy your van (y)

Scroll down to Bailey and open it.
Jobs a gooden, warts and all.

Yes again your right. Baileys have had a few manufacturing quality faults, but 1 thing has to be said for them is the habitation Alu-tec build. A guy that does bits n pieces for me, worked in the industry for years for a major scottish company (wont say name as he gets cash) was telling me even if you do spring a leak there is nothing that can rot other than floor and the leak would need to be bad for that.
On the mechanical side, a mate of mine has an MOT staion that do class 7`s and specialise in diesel engines informs me the 2.2 tdi 130 engine is 1 of the better commercial engines. Yeah well happy.

Yes it was the Bailey form i posted it on. Politics and religion? nah that is not me lol.
Yeah we should think about some of the rallies though, there may well be a man the cloth on site to exercise me and I don`t mean Mr Motivator!

We are also happy with our newly acquired Bailey and just in the process of transferring the warranty, we have also extended the damp warranty to ten years for @£250 (from the manufacturers 6 year warranty)

we were also very happy with our swift bolero, it was just the layout that didnt suit us.

Our first MH was a Bailey - loved almost everything about it :giggle: The rear lounge was incredibly comfy, it had a good sized bathroom, a well equipped kitchen and more internal storage than we knew what to do with. We did about 6k miles per year in the 3 years we had it with no major issues (y)

The only things I didn't like about it were the Whale water system (having to use a special hose to fill up was a pain at times) and the lack of easily accessible outside storage was inconvenient.....the "boot" access on the 625 is under the bike rack which means crawling under the bike rack when you needed something from in there. We also eventually got fed up with making the bed up every night. But the last two points are more about the layout than the quality of the MH itself.

If you don’t see much about them on threads usually means no ones having any trouble with them....??

I see plenty around on my travels so there’s lots out there...

generally people only post stuff about something when it goes wrong...?

as with everything there’s good ones and there’s bad ones, looks like you and me have one of the good ones of our brand...??

Thats true, but new buyers are probably looking for info on a potential buy, positive or negative. Every little helps. Like someone above mentioned they didnt like that with theirs they had to have a Whale water hose adapter for filling fresh water as a lot of vehicles do, due to the fact that it feeds into the hotwater tank first and the adapter regulates the pressure of water going in. Thats an additional £55-60 quid. Not the kind of thing you would normally consider if you didnt know about it. These extras can soon mount up.
Anyway I put the thread on to see what others views were. It has been fairly enlightening.

Wont ask any questions about that ! lol
My dealer knew straightaway what the problem was and showed me that the bed slat runners had been fitted the wrong way round. Took 5 minutes to fix, and he said "that's happened on every one we've sold. They obviously dont know there are 2 positions!".

Better not tell my good lady that then she would realise what she has been missing all these years ! lol

My 2017 Autograph has clocked 38000 miles and only issues we have have are blinds ,a new hab door all on order .

Good to hear someone clocking up miles on a MoHo like they are designed for. Are you getting the door and blinds on warranty? G

Good to hear it wasn’t a serious problem but shouldn’t it have been picked up on PDI, especially if it had happened to “every one” they had sold?

Having said that, our newest motorhome was delivered with a locker catch completely removed, also missed at PDI. We had to order a new one and chose to fit it ourselves.

The good news is that we both seem to have bought motorhomes with few initial problems. (y)

Sorry message went b 4 I finished!
We have the 625 and thinking of changing because we do a lot of Devon n Cornwall and it’s a wide van

Hello and welcome from West Midlands. We were thinking of hanging up our motorhome keys when we happened to be passing a nearby dealer and called into the shop for some small item. On the way out we passed a brand new Bailey 68-2 which just apealed as having everything we needed and none of the stuff we didn't. We bought it (I'd always said I'd never buy new!). Teething troubles were few and simple to remedy and we love our new van. I think it is the case regarding anything that people are more likely to put pen to paper (if you can remember what they both are ?) if dissatisfied than happy with a product.

First time I drove our 625 (our first motorhome) through the Devon lanes to Dartmouth I thought I was driving it sideways! It was so wide for a newbie like me I think I scraped every roadside bush on the windows.......

Yes all under warranty the blinds are the third set but not any issue .

Love our 2017 75-2. No real problems other than always carry a screwdriver :giggle:.

The lack of posts is encouraging as it indicates a level of satisfaction with the vans. They are wide but that makes them very spacious and easy to live with. The Whale filler is an irritation but flow can be improved by removing the non return valve. As has been said the AluTech construction means only the floor is capable of rotting. Overall great value for money.

Before becoming MHomers we caravaned for many many years and apart from one van all were Baileys. We loved them all and if they had a motorhome that would meet our requirements I am sure we would have one now. Unfortunately outside storage was the thing that let them down and also weight.

I crawled over and under a few Bailey vans last week (Autographs) and was quite impressed (y)

Love our 75-2, had a 2006 Elddis Sunstyle 130 for years and that was fantastic, many thousands of trouble free miles. Decided to upgrade to a new 75-2 and wow, what a piece of machinery! Everything just....worked! Have had no major issues, just a couple of things we did for our own preference (bought a seal for the awning to stop rain coming down side of van after a huge downpour in Italy) and refitted the pop up shelf beside sink as the screws had worked loose, but nothing a few cocktail sticks soaked in PVA didn't sort out. I always carry a couple of screwdrivers, an adjustable spanner and a reel of gaffer tape as I find most things can be fixed with these! Personally, I quite like the Whale system, only issue would be the gauge will say 100% full, I pull the hose and it drops to 85%!! But even with this, water lasts an absolute age...93 litres is a lot of tooth brushing!
