We have a sog on our van but it still pongs, when opened, so is it bio or non bio? I don’t like the smell of the blue stuff so not used it for years.

Bio.

But you will struggle to buy any which uses that word in France or Spain and elsewhere but you can assume almost all you will see will be bio even if it doesn't say that.

But it shouldn't pong in use. Check the fan is working. When you pull the flap out you should hear it start running.

Correct, but if you want to be sure read the ingredients(take your glasses) and look for the word 'enzyme' to be sure it is Bio.

Hi Steve. If you use anything but water in a SOG it will not work properly. No bio, no non bio, no blue green or pink stuff at all.
I read the instructions some time ago and thoroughly rinsed it out ours, and hey presto, no smells.
See you at Brid for a SOG chat 😎

The sog seems to suck as good as a lady of the night, but still smells.

Our cassette is very clean inside, so I will rinse it out and give it a try with no powder at all,
then we can have a cassette smelling competion at Bridlington 😷

Is the smell outside where the SOG exhausts to, or inside?

Either way I recommend this stuff, we have a small black tank and did have occasional odour issues, our grey and black tanks share a roof vent so we dose both tanks

No smells anymore 👍.

Bev buys it from Amazon, not cheap but works and will dose 100+ cassettes

The sog vents out of the roof so not a problem on the outside, but when you open the flap for a pee you know the flap is open.

Something is wrong if that is happening. Check the hose to the fan. You could also check the filter isn't blocked but I would be surpresed if it was.

No filter fitted it goes straight up to the roof 👍

If it smells it's probably due to a build up of calcium and gunge in the cassette.
Give it a thought clean with white wine vinegar or citric acid, take the mechanism out and get your toothbrush on it.
I do ours at least twice a year.

SOG instructions state no liquid except water or it will not work.

Our cassette is very clean inside with next to no limescale, but I will give it another clean as I have a new tooth brush.🙂

Can’t think why, sure it’s only a fan and carbon filter, what difference would an odour neutraliser make.

A SOG doesn’t do any kind of treatment as far as I know
I don’t know how it works but it does ? We’ve had a SOG 1 and a SOG 2. But you have to go by the manufacturer instructions.

Never did like rules, poo stinks, so does grey waste water, thankfully we don’t have a SOG anymore because if I did I would be breaking the rules 😁 but wouldn’t know though as I wouldn’t have read them 👍🙄🤣

I have just had a read on the sog site so will give this a go👍 And hope the smell disappears as you are parked next to us at Bridlington 🤣🤣

What’s the old saying? When all else fails read the instructions.

Bio clothes washing liquid from Aldi/Lidl, a capful added after emptying and the SOG running you shouldn’t get any smell.
Make sure the toilet itself is clean, I spray ours with white vinegar-that clears the scale build up that harbours the smell!

Interesting Thread.

I have a roof mounted SOG and the toilet is still pongy...
We had a standard door vent SOG in our previous Van which was very effective, but I have been disappointed with the roof vent version.

As per previous, there does not seem to be a 'filter' to change and I have been using Aquachem to get rid of the smell
Interested to see if others with a roof vent have had issues and if they work OK
And tips on how to troubleshoot..not sure I am brave enough to go 'chem free' unless someone else who had a pongy one has tried it first
