We are planning on arriving in Bilbao at 13:00 in early January.

I was thinking of driving for a few hours on the first day and then, possibly a longer drive next day.

So, most likely two nights to travel down.

Shortest route, via Google is around Madrid. I realise, this may have to change of the weather turns poor.

Having a quick look at searchforsites etc, gives me a couple of possibilities:

Night one
Bilbao - Aranda De Duero (c237kM / 3 hours from Bilbao)

Night two
Aranda De Duero - Ikea Murcia (or the aire right by it - 6 ish hours 542 kM).

Next day 160kM to Mojacar.

Any thoughts or alternative suggestions?
Would the 50 odd places at the Murcia aire be full with snowbirds in January?

Thanks

If you wish to stay on a site then north of Madrid you have Riaza or Pico de meil and below Madrid you have Aranjeuz.

We passed through Haro, Logrono and stopped at an aire at Medinaceli: 200 miles.
Then N320 to Cuenca (narrow streets up to a magnificent viewpoint), stopping on an aire at Castillo de Garcimunoz : 175 miles.
A31 to Chincilla de Monte Aragon (lovely aire at base of a nice village): 175 miles.
Cartagena was then another 100miles, but we stopped at Murcia.

We prefer to avoid motorways.

Hi Dave, look out for The Happy Pluckers in Mojacar - a Uke band that held a Uke Fest that our little band played at. If you see them Ask Steve if he remembers the BUGs (Bristol Ukulele Gals) suffice to say we stole the show!
